Grove Balham | Family friendly Youngs pub near Clapham common, Balham

This stunning example of Victorian architecture has stood as a haven from the hustle of Balham High Road since 1877.

The interior design is inspired by this decadent period, when the scandalous Victorians lorded over the largest Empire in history, and Balham was resident to many of London’s most notable characters.

We are very excited to reveal that we have a talented new Head Chef leading the kitchen!

Nader has already started to revamp our menu & we look forward to tasting more of his ‘best of British’ dishes.

As well as our main menu dishes we also have a range of bar snacks, including homemade sausage rolls & crispy pork scratchings – perfect for sharing, or keeping all to yourself!

The Grove Lock - Fuller's Pub and Restaurant in Leighton Buzzard

This canalside pub serves up hearty food, traditional ales and wonderful views over the water.

Located beside Lock 28 of the Grand Union Canal, it's a shining example of a great English waterside pub.

The Grove

The Grove Pub, Dining Room and Garden is situated on leafy Maple Road in Surbiton, an area often referred to as “Surbiton Village”, due to its wealth of independent shops, eateries and restaurants.

A stone’s throw from the Thames and pleasant walk along the river from Kingston Upon Thames, The Grove has a 250 cover “secret” beer garden that provides an oasis of calm away from the hustle and bustle of weekend life.

Serviced by its own outside bar, the garden also features an al fresco dining terrace, where table service is offered Friday evening, Saturday lunch and dinner and Sunday lunch (all depending on the weather of course).

This is complemented by an 80 cover restaurant and a spacious bar area, making the Grove perfect for any occasion.

The bhaji had quite subdued parsnip flavour and little spice, but the herb tartlet was pleasant and the parfait was smooth and had good liver flavour (average 15/20).

Chilled foie gras with slices of pineapple, puy lentils and ginger bread sauce was not a particularly pretty dish, but the lentils had good texture, and the pineapple gave balance to the foie gras (16/20).

The scallop was very nicely timed and had excellent inherent sweetness, nicely balanced by the acidity of the lime, with the radish and tuile adding textural contrast: a well-balanced dish with a high quality central ingredient (easily 17/20).

A “Bounty” dessert of coconut ice cream, chocolate crumb and coconut cream seemed to me a little dry, with too much crumb relative to the rest of the dish elements, though it was otherwise nice enough (14/20).

Coffee was good quality (Musetti), served with a quartet of petit fours: white chocolate truffle with sherry vinegar, pineapple lollipop with fennel seed caramel, a ginger and white chocolate fudge and a mini lemon curd tart.

food

George Stubbs, the 18th century artist, was a regular visitor to these old stables.

He didn’t come for beef, chicken or fish but the horses.

Today, of course, the horses have been replaced by the golf carts and the horseshoe’s have given way to soft spikes.

Like George, our Chefs create one masterpiece after another.

Enjoy 2 delicious courses from the lunch time set menu at The Stables for only £20 or 3 courses for only £26.

Just a few minutes from the main building is the walled garden, which is home to an outdoor pool, beach area, The Potting Shed (a restaurant and lounge) and a large kitchen garden.

With full facilities including a large swimming pool, Jacuzzi, steam rooms, saunas and treatment rooms, it’s a great place for a girly spa day!

There’s informal dining in a pub atmosphere at The Stables, a grand buffet at The Glasshouse, glamorous afternoon tea in the lounges, and Colette’s – the hotel’s fine-dining restaurant.

The fine-dining experience is headed up by top chef Russell Bateman, who creates beautiful food using locally-sourced products, including plenty of ingredients from the on-site kitchen garden.

Just 20 miles from Central London, The Grove makes a great weekend break or overnight stay.
