The friendly welcome i received was just super.

I sat myself down and placed my order, as it was so cold i thought a soup would be a good idea.

So chicken soup followed by shiro, gomen (spinach) and injera.

The soup was indeed a good idea as was my main dish.

Was i happy – Yes Was it good value – O Yes Will i go back – You bet ya

food

Introduced to Ethiopian food by ex-New Yorker friend who was addicted to it when he was in the States.

Have now added it to list of Good Restaurants To Take VIsiting Friends To When They Come.

Goof flavour, good textures, good balance (we asked the owner to recommend some of the dishes) While I eat almost anything, but as a die hard carnivore "meatitarean", the highest praise I can give is this - even the vegetarian dishes were excellent.

Usually I treat vegetarian dishes as an obligation, but in this case I'd happily go back again with my vegetarian friends, have a good meal without meat and still leave satisfied.

Definitely with visitors who want to see what sort of varied food London has to offer - this is an excellent addition to the list.

Mr Hyde - Kokeb: Mr Hyde Food Guide Ultra

Kokeb typifies the kind of place that’s been overlooked by the city’s new food revolution, yet maintains a roaring trade among those in the know.

Decorated like an Ethiopian village café, with a small bar covered in straw and posters on the wall, Kokeb serves traditional Ethiopian fare with large rolls of injera, the spongy flatbread which forms the basis of the cuisine.

Ethiopian food is one of London’s most established, yet least appropriated food cultures and is best described as being akin to an earthier, healthier Indian.

After we conceded defeat to the spread she’d laid out for us, Kokeb's owner/sole chef/waitress/hostess Getenesh told us of how people from all different cultures have been eating there since its opening in 1999, of how she falls more and more in love with her country’s cooking every day and of dealing with the influx of impatient TripAdvisor snitches that’ve come in recent years.
