Arriving in East London with a slightly different approach though, is Smokey Tails’ latest pop-up at the Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen.

The brainchild of DJ Seth Troxler, Smokey Tails is responsible for some of London’s tastiest pop-up foodie experiences over the last few years, and their latest brunch foray doesn’t disappoint.

On top of the food, you also get the choice of free-flowing Bloody Marys, prosecco or mimosas (or ‘virgin’ options if you’re not on the sauce), and as is with any event promising to ply you with an unlimited amount of alcohol, the vibe here promises a suitably rowdy start to your afternoon.

Expect it to be loud, expect it to be tasty and expect it to be boozy; Smokey Tails have hit the nail on the head with their bottomless brunch experience, and Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen is the perfect home for it.

Smokey Tails at Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen takes place 10am-2pm on Saturdays and 12pm-2pm on Sundays.

After 20 minutes we were finally shown to our table.

I looked around: at the DJ booth, laden with old vinyl and dotted with cactuses; at the networks of exposed pipes, mandatory under the East London Hipster Bar Act 2002; and at our table, where for some reason a tiny candle had been placed at the bottom of a large flowerpot, the minimal light it was able to cast made in any case redundant by the massive electric lamp suspended about two feet above it.

The menu was brief – four mains, five sides, four salads – and they had run out of two key items, the Troxler BBQ pork brioche bun and Mamma’s fried chicken.

I decided to compare the pork ribs and the lamb ribs, with a side of fries; the 22-year-old took the miso aubergine with smoked tofu, the mac and cheese, and the tomato salad ('I’m vegetarian.

Smokey Tails, DJ Seth Troxler’s BBQ restaurant at Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen now serves up bottomless brunch every Saturday and Sunday.

On the Menu: The menu is succinct, just three dishes to choose from – Mama T’s pancakes with fruit compote and vanilla cream; indulgent French toast with fried chicken and Cherry Cola gammon and fried eggs.

What We Ate: There could only be one dish for us, the French toast.

Not for the faint hearted, it’s a pile of fluffy brioche French toast with a crunchy outside, crispy fried chicken and salty bacon all covered in sticky, sweet maple syrup.

Final Word: The only downside was that service was a little slow, for a full restaurant there didn’t seem to be that many serving, perhaps it was our corner table or because we weren’t in a big group so less noticeable but we were waiting quite a while before we were brought our first drink or food.
