When I visit the new Italian eatery Casa Tua at King’s Cross, with its sun-kissed piazza, leafy surroundings and relaxed yet bonhomous energy, this sentiment attaches itself to me and doesn’t leave until well after I’ve bid the friendly staff goodbye and strolled back towards the canal, only then remembering that it’s a Thursday and there’s still work to do this afternoon.
I’d recommend it to anyone who’s in the area and wants kick back like it’s Sunday; it may even put a smile on the face of the world’s grumpiest vegan, should Morrissey ever find himself stuck for a bite to eat in King’s Cross.

Photo: PR The tiny original branch of Casa Tua, opposite Camden Road station, has become an NW1 institution over the last few years, whether for a strong coffee, a plate of burrata or low-lit evening meal.
So much so that it’s not entirely surprising that enterprising (and charismatic) owner Giuseppe Miggiano has just opened a second, more spacious two-floor venue in a WC1 sidestreet south of King’s Cross station.
As well as head chef Michele Fanciullo, who previously worked in a Michelin-starred restaurant in France for six years, Giuseppe has recruited his general manager and sommelier (and fellow Neapolitan) Alfonso Cimmino from the Jason Atherton restaurant City Social.
“My grandma cooked octopus in a terracotta pot over the fire for 12-15 hours in Puglia,” says Giuseppe.
Photo: PRCasa Tua has a handful of chef’s specials on daily rotation – on our visit it’s a hearty cod with risotto – but we settle for two pasta mains.

Italian restaurants often do pretty much nothing to dispel the stereotypes of their own menus: all pasta, focaccia, mozzarella and Parma ham.
This cute little café-bar on a King’s Cross backstreet is a good example of this Italo-limbo.
It’s a lovely place to linger over a light lunch and a good coffee thanks to its handful of pavement tables exceptionally friendly owner.
Their traditional Roman carbonara comes with beautifully fresh pasta and meaty guanciale, but little flavour to coat them.
Because when it comes to Italian food, let’s face it, their mid-range is always far more desirable than ours.
