Kulu Kulu Sushi's Covent Garden branch in Shelton Street (details below) looks, if anything, even more unremarkable from the street than the South Kensington branch does, but we can vouch that the sushi is just as good, and the atmosphere similarly causal and laid back.

You feel that all your money goes to the essential: the food.You are seated at a bar, and the plates with different declicous kinds of sushi go bye and you choose.

There are many kinds of sushi and they are served on six kinds of plates, which indicate the price of the dish.You may need to wait a bit until you get a set.

Repeated visits in recent months have shown that this longstanding branch (there's one in Knightsbridge and another in Soho) is one of London's best low-priced outlets for Japanese small dishes.

Cooked dishes, epecially anything deep-fried, are superlative when freshly made; a good reason to sit near the beginning of the conveyor belt on the right-hand side of the restaurant.

Better still is to get dishes made to order – the staff are normally very obliging about this.

Don't go if you want to linger at length, or if ambiance matters: no kaiten sushi (conveyor belt) is right for those occasions.

But if you want high quality, and the chance for a quick in-and-out, you can't do much better than this wonderful place.
