London's first aperitivo and cicchetti venue | 7SL

Chelsea has become the proud new home to London’s very first aperitivo and cicchetti venue.

Everything here has been inspired by Italy: from the Milanese-inspired decor to the imported produce (some of which are exclusive to Ritorno only, including wines, olive oil and pasta), this premium lounge bar and kitchen is as authentic as they come.

Manager Giulio made some expert recommendations on both the food and drinks, and was the perfect host.

The Milan Mule is a twist on the Moscow Mule and is currently Milan’s drink of the moment, demonstrating how the staff are keeping one foot in London and the other firmly in Italy.

Order the Burrata as well, incredibly light and refreshing, and just divine with a drizzle of Ritorno’s olive oil, which you can even buy in-house.

Ritorno brings an authentic Italian aperitivo experience from the sophisticated streets of Milan, to the fashionable streets of Chelsea.

Head Barman, Paolo Viola (formerly of Rivoli Bar at The Ritz) and Chef Filippo Salzano have collaborated to create a unique cocktail and food pairing experience using ingredients inspired by and sourced from across the Italian peninsula and surrounding islands.

Ritorno aims to harness and enrich London’s world-renowned mixology expertise with Italy’s finest artisanal and rare produce, amalgamating it with the Italian aperitivo concept, which for the Italians, is a social experience and an excuse to enjoy the finest flavours with loved ones.

This week, the elegant Chelsea hot-spot is celebrating the Chelsea Flower Show with a series of floral-themed experiences including a Botanical Brunch and Floral Jewellery Workshop and an elaborate floral installation created by award-winning floral designer Ricky Paul Flowers on Ritorno’s outdoor terrace.

Celebrating summer and the classic aperitivo cocktail, Grand Central Italia, is the new series of alfresco cocktails created by Ritorno head barman Paolo Viola with one of Italy’s finest aperitivo wines, Cocchi.

Italian small plates, sexy cocktails, refined interiors and fantastic service.

Just a few of the things you can expect to find at my local Italian restaurant – Ritorno.

A sumptuous bar and restaurant on the King’s Road in Chelsea with a mixture of the elegant lifestyle of Milan, complemented by fine wines and cocktails in chic surroundings.

Another favourite was the fried zucchini flowers with burrata, anchovies and plum tomato sauce.

The pasta was mixed into a rich tomato sauce, packed with King crab, Italian plum tomato sauce and topped with Pistachio of Bronte.

Ritorno Campari Winter Terrace

food

Chelsea Italian restaurant Ritorno will be transforming its outdoor terrace overlooking King’s Road into an Alpine wonderland this Christmas, in partnership with Campari.

The heated wrap-around terrace will host a cosy log cabin with sheepskin blankets and cushions, with a silver birch arch and glittering willow branches around the stairs.

Cocktails created by Ritorno’s head barman Simone Francini and Campari include T’is The Aperol (a sharing cocktail combining Aperol, Maker’s Mark bourbon and home-made pineapple and green tea syrup) and Ritorno Brulé (a warming take on Italian mulled wine made with Aperol, Essential Persichetti liqueur, vanilla syrup and red wine reduction mixed with herbs, spices and dried fruits).

Also available will be the classic Campari-based Negroni, and Aperol Spritz.

If you like polish, Ritorno is the place for you.

This cocktail bar on the King’s Road must go through buckets of the stuff.

As for Ritorno’s drinks menu, it promises a four-fold journey around Italy.

Still, the Sardegna, a short vodka-based concoction topped with lavender air, was sweet and botanical, while the Perla, a cocktail flavoured with rose and orange and topped with petals, was pretty to look at and easy to drink.

The food was solid, a welcome accompaniment to our cocktails.
