Chai Naasto's Indian Street Food Hits Hammersmith - Feed the Lion

After its success in Kent’s Beckenham, Chai Naasto will be opening the doors to its second branch tomorrow as they bring the streets of India to the streets of Hammersmith in West London.

Having been voted the Winner for Open Table’s 2016 Diner’s Choice in its first year of opening, this popular, young and vibrant restaurant’s menu brings you the authentic flavours of the streets of India.

With a 5-star hygiene rating at their Beckenham branch, Chai Naasto constantly strives to adapt and evolve by offering what it call a “gastronomic adventure throughout India”.

To this end, diners are asked to pick 2-3 “chaat street” or “kebab gully” naasto plates, stacked up with a couple of “punjab” or “nanima’s curries”, and topped off with a few extras.

Chai Naasto has confirmed: “All our meats used are certified Halal.”

The concept of Hammersmith's Chai Naasto, coupled with the fact that the venue specialises in food that I've grown up eating, compelled me to head west and try out this Indian restaurant for myself.

With that in mind, the main dishes on the menu - named after the city they are from - are chopped and swapped with the seasons.

The chaat, in particular, is a must-try dish.

Being North Indian, we only had eyes for the Punjabi menu and chose the Amritsari Daal (£6.50), alongside the rich butter chicken (£8.50).

Each mouthful drew out waves of nostalgia and perfectly represented the great flavours of Punjabi cooking that are often lost due to an unfortunate tendency to over-spice and therefore butcher recipes; a pitfall that Chai Naasto easily avoids by keeping things simple.
