The Savannah - London's Sustainable Restaurant

Review analysis
food   ambience

The Savannah is located within the Wesley Hotel (see later).

The décor tells a story inspired by nature and sustainability, with ‘time’ as the theme.

The Bird of Prey has been hand-crafted by ethical artist Ptolemy Erlington, well-known for transforming scrap metal in works of art, mainly animal forms.

The ‘bird’ is made of recycled shopping trolleys, is a dynamic art piece and stands majestic in the main restaurant.

The Savannah also cultivates emerging creativity and the work of upcoming animators, film makers and artists will be projected on the walls.

The lunch menu is a curious mixture of fusion dishes.

Three starters, four main dishes, a good selection of side dishes and a mixture of desserts, ice-cream and sorbets are on offer.

My initial feeling was that there should be sharing platters of charcuterie or cheese to complement the rather brief selection of starters and perhaps a salad or two as an option for mains.

For my palate it was overly complicated and the prawn batter was rather heavy – closer to the kind you’d find on a prawn in a Chinese sweet and sour dish than a classic tempura.

In addition to the short selection of puddings there’s also a list of rather fabulous sounding ice creams and sorbets – lemon and red chilli or Mojito sorbet, olive oil or whisky ice cream and ‘the daily selection’.

I truly love this restaurant, this was my second time here and the food and service seem to be consistently amazing.

The staff - the ethos of the restaurant was to have a multi-national staff- were a huge factor in how enjoyable our meal was.

Savannah is a lovely clean resteraunt attentive staff and the "Groupon" meal deal for £25 was good to a point There was little food on the plate.

Yes you could buy extras but too expensive and we weren't asked if we wanted any extras so we got what was advertised on the menu The food was excellent, however the same can not be said about the service unfortunately.

Again, can't fault the excellent quality of the food, albeit the mix up with the salad, but could do with friendlier and more efficient service.

food

An ethical and eco-friendly restaurant in The Wesley Hotel.

It claims to be London’s first sustainable hotel, and this ethos is carried through to its restaurant.

A starter of crispy tempura prawns rested on a banana leaf with a delicately spiced tomato sauce by its side, while the rack of lamb was well cooked and paired with crispy bacon and creamy polenta.

Portions are a bit on the measly side, which is only emphasised by vast white plates.

So while the ethically sourced food might not cost the earth (in more ways than one), you might still leave The Savannah feeling a bit short-changed.
