Authentic Chinese Restaurants In London | Shikumen

Indulge your senses with our homemade steamed dim sum and perfectly prepared Peking Duck, in an ambient setting influenced by the gate buildings of 1940s Shanghai – you won’t be disappointed.

Prepared meticulously by Chefs from Peking according to an ancient recipe, Shikumen Peking Duck is truly authentic.

Over time, Chefs and gourmands have popularised a variety of ways to enjoy traditional Peking Duck, typically presented in two servings.

The roasting time is approximately 45 minutes per duck.

We take pride in our homemade Dim Sums, made by our experienced chefs using the freshest and finest ingredients.

Shikumen Dim Sum | London Eater

I posted a small guide 6 years ago, but time has eroded away the quality, perhaps due in part to the opaque nature in which chefs change shop in Chinese restaurants.

While it is Hakkasan/Yauatcha which hold the stars, so they should for the bling-bling operation, in the real world it is Andrew Wong who deserves an upgrade to full macaroon status for both his dim sum and dinner menus – itself no small feat – and in my book, remains the best Chinese restaurant in London.

Restaurants that do decent dim sum usually have a dedicated dim sum chef to oversee this menu, likely the case at Shikumen.

Perhaps because of what DTF started all those years ago in Taipei, XLB is now near ubiquitous on dim sum menus the world over.

A.Wong remains the best Chinese restaurant in London, though a meal at Andrew’s is more about exploring the cuisine’s boundaries.

Review: Shikumen, Shepherds Bush | House of Coco

After her recent visit to The Dorsett Shepherds Bush, our Lifestyle Writer, Helena, couldn’t help but have her eye on the enticing smell and polished entrance of Shikumen, we all know how hard it is to find an authentic Cantonese in London, steering away from China Town and we wanted to find out if they really do serve “London’s best Peking duck.”

Shikumen is the still-pretty-new Chinese restaurant situated cozily at the Ground Floor of The Dorsett Shepherds Bush that oozes class although you don’t have to worry whether you fit in or if you’re wearing the right outfit.

The staff are amazing, awfully traditional and helpful and navigated us patiently through the menu suggesting the favourites and the signature, the Bejing Peking Duck, which is carved at your table and served with handmade fresh pancakes and Chinese buns.

We were additionally recommended to try the Scottish Beef Fillet in Red Wine Black Pepper Sauce and Roasted Chilean Sea Bass in Honey King Sauce which was the perfect accompaniment for the Duck Fried Rice and the suggestions certainly didn’t disappoint.

Shikumen are currently running a competition where they are giving away a Peking Duck every fortnight and an overnight stay at the Dorsett Shepherds Bush once a month!

Vouchers that knock either 50 percent or 25 percent off the food bill at the Shepherd’s Bush, Finchley Road and Aldgate locations of Shikumen.

Not visited Shikumen before?

Time Out’s Food section certainly have – and they loved it.

After visiting the Shepherd’s Bush restaurant they gave it a glowing five-star review, and called out the elegant décor, impeccable service and – of course – the mouthwatering food, which included ‘exquisite’ steamed dim sum, ‘sensual’ cheung fun and ‘faultless’ seafood udon.

We’re running two separate voucher offers with Shikumen– the first knocks 50 percent off the food bill for £10; the second knocks 25 percent off for £5.

We then shared half a Peking duck.

They carve the duck at your table and serve it with the usual condiments and some steamed milk buns (to make burgers out of).
