The Thatched House - Hammersmith's Warmest Welcome

The Thatched House in Southsea, Fayre & Square

The Thatched House is situated in Milton and has beautiful views of the water.

We have dining both inside the pub and a large garden with an outside bar for beautiful sunny days.

No‐one´s left out at Fayre & Square.

For the young ones, a dedicated play area ‐ full of all the soft play things they love, including favourites like slides and ball pools.

So when they´re not sat at the table with you, they´re off having fun ‐ but just in our free soft play area, right there in the corner where you can see them.

The Thatched House is sister to The Ship at Wandsworth, and notionally under the culinary direction of that pub’s head chef Shaun Harrington, though he is not in the kitchen.

The short wine list ranges in price from £16.45 to £39.95, though the lack of listing of vintages suggests this is not a list aimed at serious wine drinkers.

Scotch egg (£4.50) was made from scratch, with a liquid free range egg centre (a Cotswold Legbar egg, apparently, which is good enough for Waitrose), reasonable sausage meat filling though a thin crisp coating that was not properly bound to the egg (12/20).

Overall, this was an adequate meal, though it seems that the dishes are constrained because this (Young's) pub has to generally use suppliers on the Young’s list, which since it is aiming at a large (over 250 pubs) chain is clearly driven heavily by price.

It was certainly quite cheap, but is really just quite good pub food rather than somewhere you would travel to eat at.

The Thatched House review: A vibrant Hammersmith gastropub ...

Inside, the 19th century pub has the feel of an up-market country boozer, and the decor mixes classic pub aesthetics with a more contemporary style.

The cask options and guest ales are always worth checking out, but it’s the assured and extensive wine list where the pub really excels.
