The Anglesea Arms

The Anglesea Arms is found on Selwood Terrace in South Kensington, where Charles Dickens once resided at no. 11.

A beautiful traditional pub that feels older than it looks with warranted reputation for its excellent food and drink offering… There is a large terrace out the front of the pub, and a few tables down the side of the pub, where you can eat from both menus and enjoy the sun (if there is any).

We are very happy for people to bring in dogs to the pub, but in our restaurant we run on a strict no dog policy.

This pub was voted among the top 10 pubs in central London by Londonist readers, as well as one of the best pubs in Chelsea.

Even though the Anglesea isn't all that central, it still got voted as one of London's best central pubs.

That immediately tells you something of the quality of this place.

The main bar is a relaxing, wooden space where the eye is repeatedly drawn to the massive naked lady, whose painting guards the entrance to the loos.

A smaller restaurant space can be found on the lower split-level, and there's a sheltered outdoor space to the front.

The wine list had just over 50 labels, ranging from £17.50 to £59, with a median price of £30 and an average mark-up of 2.3 times retail, which is very fair by London standards.

Wood pigeon (£17) with celeriac puree, king cabbage and hedgehog mushrooms was cooked pink, though was somewhat fiddly to get off the bone.

The celeriac puree had good texture, but for me the best element was the excellent reduction of cooking juices, which had plenty of flavour (13/20).

Apple and rhubarb crumble (£6) was the dish of the night, the rhubarb providing plenty of acidity to offset the custard, the crumble having good texture (strong 13/20).

A typical bill per head if sharing a modest bottle of wine would be £50.

The bar boasts an evolving selection of cast conditioned real ales on the four hand pumps, including local brews and regional classics, as well as a well-curated international wine list with a special focus on magnums.

“The food is very very good but dosent make up for the usless barstaff and on both occasion had to ask for a wine bucket as wine was not cold also can book but most table are kept for the snobby locals we got there at six told not table available but watched people come and hour later and get a table and we were moved to the bar to eat on both occasions - No heating in restaurant and clintel too stuck” “Top quality Gastro-pub!

The menu is created daily (there's a big chalkboard), the food is excellently prepared by the kitchen that is just off the dining room and the restaurant area is smallish with a great atmosphere.

've noticed that when you get your food, a few drinkers in the bar will wander over to the edge of the restaurant area and look at your dinner with very jealous eyes!
