London Gluten Free Leadbelly's Review ⋆ Forever Free From

Leadbelly’s Bar & Bistro in Canada Water has swiftly become one of my top 5 places to eat (yes, post incoming) gluten free in London.

The combination of outdoor space, a lively front bar area, a cosier back restaurant and seating options for solos, pairs and groups makes Leadbelly’s a P.T. Barnum ‘something for everyone’ venue.

Leadbelly’s has more gluten-free dishes than any of them within a 98% Gluten Free Menu.

Leadbelly’s finally gives me closure from the demise of two London venues that did gluten-free Fish & Chips extraordinarily well, the Truscott Arms and Maddie’s Fish Bar, RIP.

The flavour changes frequently providing a great excuse to sample over and over and . . . . As a Free From Eating Out Awards judge, London Gluten Free Meetup Club organizer and lover of dining out I feel I recognize a tremendous venue when I discover one.

Incredible Gluten Free Offerings at Leadbelly's - GF Sesh

What’s great about the quality and flavour of the food, and the way Leadbelly’s market themselves, is that it doesn’t put off your average Joe into thinking this is going to be a ‘gluten free restaurant’ that’s only enjoyed by a gluten free-er.

How many times have you been out for dinner and felt family and friends have been put off by a 100% gluten free restaurant.

We decided to share Waffles with Maple Syrup and Bacon (drool), and a Southern Fried Chicken Burger, with Chips and a GF bun (normal buns also available).

The waffles were lovely a squishy, smothered in maple syrup, butter and bacon, and southern fried chicken perfectly crisp.

I was so chuffed with the food, that the thought of a GF roast with gluten free Yorkshire puddings available would not leave my mind.

There is a Kids Menu but Haydn is a discerning little chap who was not lured by anything on it, and being quite adventurous around food allowed me to choose starters to share.

This is a new dish which, seeing as Leadbelly’s has only been open five weeks, is a good sign that the chef is already thinking of new ideas to push the place forward.

In the restaurant you could still enjoy the music but without the hustle and bustle and chatter of the bar area where people were gathered around drinks and bar snacks.

I had the Braised Lamb Shoulder Pie, with Root Vegetables and Mash.
