Last week all started out fairly normally, Monday was press day at my magazine day job, our first Christmas double so a little busier than usual.
We ordered a couple of great quality Union coffees (I’m allowed one a day – down from my usual 3 or 4) and a Super-C smoothie bowl (£5.50), to share.
Now what I really wanted to eat was their fry-up, the Full English Pantry Breakfast (£10) but Saff’s disapproving glare persuaded me to order the Beetroot, feta and red onion fritters, served with soft eggs (£7.50) and I’m so glad I did.
We only sampled a few dishes from the all day brunch menu but the Social Pantry’s full menu has something for everyone for every time of day – fresh salads, crusty sandwiches, seasonal soups and savory pastries.
We, on the other hand, are going to have to try our luck at recreating those amazing Beetroot, Feta and Red Onion Fritters at home in our little Kentish cottage.

A few years ago or so, south-west London really wasn’t known for its food – apart from a handful of classics.
A street once lined with take-outs and fast food, it’s now become a mecca for foodies looking for something exciting off the beaten track – one of those being The Social Pantry.
Founded and owned by the fabulous Alex Head, this remarkable (and very young) women has created a business which is known across London for its quality, innovative party or event pieces which go far beyond the mediocre pineapple on sticks.
Once we demolished all of the lovely canapés passing around the room we sat down and delved into a delicious meal.
Social Pantry may be an amazing catering company but we mustn’t forget – they have a fabulous cafe on Lavender Hill serving some very serious food indeed.

This cute, shabby-chic café on Lavender Hill has lots going for it, including a counter heaving with fresh salads, wax paper-wrapped sandwiches and squidgy cakes, and a light, bright feel.
Not everything lives up to these positive first impressions – service can be slightly careless, and simple queries were met with blank looks – but the café is a popular option when so close to Clapham Junction.
From the brunch offering, poached eggs with herb-spiked avocados on toast were nicely done; however, the accompanying roast tomatoes were mushy and under-seasoned.
To drink, fruit and vegetable juices or thick smoothies are appealing, but pricey even by Lavender Hill standards.
Social Pantry Café might be on the right track, but it's also as reliable as the rail network during weekend engineering works.
