C absolutely insists that we didn’t have our first date in La Rueda.

Pil pil prawns (£5.75) tasted of garlic and chilli, all right, and on that score what’s not to like?

They had more character than the Spanish omelette (£3.95), but still had the mysterious and unmistakable reek of potatoes that had been cooked substantially, perhaps weeks, before they’d been served.

The chorizo in wine (£4.30) is slightly curious in that the wine doesn’t taste like a sauce; it just tastes like a glass of thin red thrown over the top of a sausage.

But the sausage is improbably good; it is everything a chorizo should be, with a subtle tang and a welcoming, crumbly warmth.

La Rueda’s original outpost along Clapham High Street is still going strong, decades after kickstarting the Latin and Spanish tapas craze in London.

Midway between Clapham Common and Clapham North stations, La Rueda offers the area’s best tapas and Spanish cuisine for casual, intimate dining during the week, late-night parties come the weekend, and a great selection of classic and contemporary Spanish wine alongside delicious cocktails.

If you’re looking for a great deal on Spanish food south of the river, be sure to check out La Rueda’s early-bird and group dining specials.

La Rueda has been around the block, and with such a wealth of experience when it comes to serving London with superb Spanish cuisine under their belts, it’s no surprise that their menu is as long as it is.

Clapham locals also flock to La Rueda when day turns into night – the weekends here are all about the party.

La Rueda, London | Spanish Restaurants - 6 Reviews on Yell

We opened our first La Rueda restaurant on Clapham High Street in the mid- 1980s way before Clapham became a buzzing area, with its fabulous bars and restaurants.

La Rueda remains the longest standing and probably the most popular restaurant on the High Street.

Due to such success a sister restaurant opened in 1995 on the Kings Road and then a few years later a third branch in Wigmore Street.

During the week the restaurant provide an intimate atmosphere to relax and enjoy a meal with a bottle of wine but the weekends are a different affair please take a look at our EVENTS!

La Rueda is an ideal venue for weddings, birthdays, hen nights or business lunches
