In Spring 2015, The Abbeville Kitchen transformed into May The Fifteenth.

Whilst the name and the decor have changed, we are still the same restaurant, bar and caterers situated on Abbeville Road near Clapham Common.

And we still cater for all types of private events, whether they be held at our restaurant or a location of your choice.

The Abbeville London Abbeville Road Clapham Pub Reviews ...

The Abbeville is a traditional Gastro Pub in Clapham with fine beers and wines, perfect for a get together with friends or a lazy London afternoon stop over.

In the summer the pub’s front doors open and blur the distinction between the outside tables on their terrace and the cosy interior.

During winter the open fire is the heart of this Clapham pub which shows Sky Sports on 46” HD plasma and with an 88” projector in the dining room.

For Sunday visits they strongly advise you to book a table as The Abbeville’s traditional roasts served with all the trimmings, including the crispiest roast potatoes in town, are a real hit with the regulars.

food

The Bolingbroke Pub & Dining Room is named in honour of Henry St. John, 1st Viscount Bolingbroke, the brilliant politician and reckless rake, who spent the early and final years of his life in Battersea.

Whilst Henry was renowned for his hard drinking, innumerable affairs and wild escapades, this Northcote Road public house is a rather more refined local.

We are proud to work with some of the best small producers the British Isles has to offer.

We have a good range of cask ales and lagers and are proud of our wine list which offers great wines at very reasonable prices.

About 15 years ago, the bit of Clapham around Abbeville Road to the east of the common began to be known as "Abbeville Village".

From a food point of view, the best thing to happen to Abbeville Road was the opening of the brilliant cheese shop/deli, MacFarlane's.

The chef, Kevin McFadden, once worked at the Anchor & Hope, and he's the third graduate of that place to have opened a top-grade new south London place in the last few years, the others being Trish Hilferty at the Canton Arms and Jackson Boxer at Brunswick House Cafe.

It's not an easy thing to find in restaurants, but Abbeville Kitchen offers a convincing substitute in the form of its steak pie, served for two, with intensely tasty slow-cooked braising steak in a rich, rosemary-spiked sauce and a heroic, suety pie crust.

Cuttlefish, again the perfect texture – McFadden is really good at that – were cooked with clams and a generous dollop of aïoli, potatoes and saffron in a rich broth.

Of all the ‘destination’ diners in the locality, Abbeville Kitchen is the least known.

Look past these shortcomings, though, to the open kitchen, which sends out generously portioned dishes with thrilling, bold flavours.

On our visit, meaty yet tender pieces of cuttlefish sat over a full-flavoured, cumin-studded tomato and parsley sauce, with a blob of garlicky aïoli for good measure.

No less satisfying was a dish of enormous hunks of salt beef on a mound of rustic green lentils, with a zingy salsa verde and pieces of sharp-and-sweet mustard fruits (think glacé cherries and candied orange pieces with a biting mustard end-note).

A vegetarian choice was equally accomplished, featuring soft strips of smoked aubergine served with roasted red peppers, chickpeas, fresh goat’s cheese and a dollop of tangy romesco (red pepper and nut sauce).
