ambience   food

Top quality food, served with Italian panache, in a lovely, light and airy dining room, in the middle of Covent Garden.

The menu had me in a tizz.

Burrata with Parma ham and black truffle (£9.95) was another dish of uncomplicated elegance.

Risotto with lobster and black truffle (£15.95) was not a recommendation from the Maitre d' and my only disappointment.

Prawn and monkfish spiedino (£9.95) and Ribeye with chili, garlic and sweet potatoes were both excellent dishes, though not on a par with the tuna, ravioli and burrata.

food   drinks   value

I remember when I first started writing about food, the idea of writing up about a ‘chain‘ restaurant sounded like a sackable offense in food writing.

I find it a great way to see exactly how good the restaurant is at sourcing quality ingredients, plus you can tell how fresh the food will be.

I know prawns don’t come cheap but for two of them at £10.95 you could order a similar dish at Italian restaurant Bocca di Lupo.

A delicate meaty flavour, tender to the bite and soft to the touch – the fat was also cooked perfectly with that nice thin and crispy layer.

But with good food and attentive service Cicchetti has something to offer for every taste.
