L’Atelier is simply the best restaurant in London, Paris & Las Vegas BY A MILE!

What is even better about L’Atelier London (located next to the Ivy), is that you can experience this incredible restaurant for a breath-taking £45 for three courses if you order by 6pm!

Having said that, I have never been disappointing by a single meal in nearly 10 years… In London you can have a beverage in the gorgeous bar & terrace on the second level before either eating in the Fine Dining restaurant ‘La Cuisine’ on the top floor, or go back downstairs to L’Atelier for a more informal, but equally as delicious meal.

To watch Robuchon’s seemingly infinite number of chefs working their art is pure theatre and truly magical.

The best restaurant in the West End, London, Britain & the UK!

food

The mainly black upstairs dining room of Joël Robuchon's new London 'workshop' - accented with white tiles, pepper pots and bric-à-brac - is oddly reminiscent of an early PizzaExpress.

The rather hugger-mugger feel is all part of the 'authenticity' of an establishment whose aspirations - despite the location of other branches in Tokyo, Las Vegas and, now, New York - are explicitly not in the direction of grandeur.

Quail stuffed with black truffle and served with sinful buttery mash was luxurious, if tiny.

Go the dégustation route (£80) - the one the staff charmingly, push you down - and your budget would encompass dining anywhere else in town.

And the sort of people who keep their Maybachs waiting outside probably don't care too much about the bill.

When he was cooking at Jamin in Paris, and later at Robuchon when he moved premises, he was producing as good food as has ever left a kitchen, and was elected “Chef of the Century” by Gault Millau.

He was previously head chef of the Atelier Robuchon branches in New York and Taipei.

Bernard Fouquet Aubuis Cuvee de Silex Vouvray 2011 was £38 for a wine that you can find in the high street for around £12, Leeuwin Estate Prelude Chardonnay 2008 was £84 for a wine that retails at £24, and the mark-ups showed no relief at the premium end of the list, with Vega Sicilia Unico 2000 at a hefty £750 for a wine that you can buy in a shop for about £216.

Foie gras royale with port wine reduction and Parmesan foam was a little amuse-bouche served in a shot glass, rich but very enjoyable, the hint of Parmesan working well with the liver (16/20).

A selection of tarts (£14) were also very good indeed: lemon, chocolate with coconut, caramel and coffee, and finally pistachio and raspberry.

13-15 West Street, London WC2 (020 7010 8600) Meal for two, including wine and service £90-£150 The night I went to L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon, the new London outpost of the great French chef's global empire, I was in a state of high anxiety.

Eventually, after 40 minutes, we were shown down to L'Atelier where ... most of the seats were empty.

We had exemplary sweetbreads, which were creamy inside and crisp outside, and a steak tartar with their own crinkle-cut chips.

Robuchon says his inspiration for L'Atelier comes from the tapas bars of Spain, where he has a house.

They did have Robuchon's take on spaghetti bolognese which, at £11, was unforgivably poor.
