Things I miss most about London: Part 1 - Bon Voyage, Lauren!

If you visit London and don’t manage to eat and drink in a pub, you’re doing everything wrong.

In my humble opinion, the perfect pub has a fireplace, oversized chairs and couches, friendly bartenders, great food, and potted plants or some other adorable and quaint thing hanging from the ceiling.

It’s not hard to find a pub in London, there seems to be one almost on every street.

My favorite bit about this pub is probably the Thai food restaurant in the back.

If you’ve traveled to London, I’d love to know your favorite pub or place to eat!

Porcupine in Leicester Square, London Pub Review and Details

So be prepared to mix with tourists drinking half a lager and weekenders using the pub as a pre-club warm-up spot.

There's also an upstairs bar, but, as is often the case with upstairs rooms, although it is more comfortable and less hectic, it has limited opening hours compared to the rest of the pub.

However, what marks this down as a one pinter rather than a two pint pub is the utterly terrible service - slow and rude behaviour from staff who appeared not to give a damn.

It might not be the greatest pub to work in, what with its transient clientele, but there was no excuse for some of the staff's behaviour we witnessed.

I.R.A. Bomb Destroyed in Central London - The New York Times

Review analysis
food   staff   location

The calls fitted the pattern of previous I.R.A. attacks, with the callers using code words known to the group and to the authorities.

Because the calls were vague about where the bomb was planted, the police were forced to block off a wide swath of central London, in the heart of the city's theater, shopping and tourist districts -- from Pall Mall in the south to Oxford Street in the north, and from Park Lane in the west to Charing Cross Road in the east.

After the the bomb was destroyed, using a remote control robot, the police said it had "all the hallmarks" of an I.R.A. device.

Today's was a bona fide bomb, and it was the first definitely planted by the I.R.A. since the one in the Docklands last Friday.

By planting the bombs, the I.R.A. is reacting to what it regards as Britain's intransigence over the issue of whether Northern Ireland, with its Protestant majority, should remain part of Britain, become part of the predominantly Roman Catholic Republic of Ireland, or assume some other status.
