Porterhouse Covent Garden London

OK, so we might be one of the largest bars in London, but it does not feel that way.

The bar is split over three main levels with various mezzanine levels in between.

Let the fast pace of London pass you by as you sit and drink the finest stout brewed in the world.

No shamrocks or shalaylee’s here – simply a truly awesome Irish Bar with genuine Irish Beers and fine food.

But don’t think of us as just a fantastic beer bar because we also have a Cocktail Bar and an amazing Dingle Whiskey Bar which holds an eclectic selection.

Ok it might be the largest bar in London but it doesn't feel that way.

Let the fast pace of London pass you by as you sit and down the finest stout brewed in the world.

So obsessed with our beer that we are, we don’t simply brew under licence and claim Irish roots - we actually hand craft the beer in Dublin, load it onto a ship, wave goodbye and wait anxiously for its arrival in one of the world’s great capital cities.

No shamrocks or shalaylees here - simply a truly awesome Irish bar with genuine Irish beers, fine food and when it gets a little bit later in the evening you may pop down to our basement bar to enjoy some of London's best live music.

But don't just think of us as a fantastic beer bar because we also have some fantastic wines on offer.

Popular Brighton steak specialist opens a London branch.

Thanks to our attentive and passionate waiter, choosing a wine has never been such fun.

Don’t overdo it on the starters, mind, when the main attraction is still to come… While there are other mains on the menu, including a Sunday sharing roast, it’s the steaks which give The Coal Shed its glowing reputation, and deservedly so.

We shared the porterhouse, which was thick, chargrilled, and split into a steak fillet down one side of the pan and sirloin down the other.

The service was exceptional on our visit, and we saw the same care and enthusiasm being dished out to other tables across the cosy, wooden-floored dining room.

It's about doing something simple and doing it better than anyone else.

That something is beef.

100% grass fed, naturally reared beef.

The Porterhouse review: The biggest pub in London, with a huge ...

London institution The Porterhouse is a huge three-floor space on Maiden Lane, and represents the largest pub in the city.

Run by Irish brewers Porterhouse Brewing Co. the pub offers a huge range of ales and also brews its own stouts, ales and lagers, which are well worth a try.

Its sheer size means it’s not the easiest venue to navigate, and after a few drinks you may find yourself getting a little lost in here.

Thankfully though, the unconventional decor makes it a nice space to walk around.

If you haven’t enjoyed a few pints in this Covent Garden pub, put it on your to-do list.

... NOW TAKING BOOKINGS FOR SUNDAY ROASTS ... Welcome to the porterhouse grill & rooms.

Situated in the heart of Oxford, 300 yards from the train station, our 117-year-old building has been recently renovated into a truly unique venue.

Please join us in the grill & bar for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Our 7 en suite double rooms are modern, minimalistic & stylish - the neighbourhood is peaceful & the beds are extremely comfortable.

So, If the thought of an early evening dry martini, a starter of duck hearts, a cote de boeuf accompanied by a fine claret & perhaps a nightcap before you roll upstairs to your luxurious bed inspires one, then we very much look forward to welcoming you at the porterhouse grill & rooms.

The meatball section has been beefed up, and our pork and fennel version was moist and well spiced, served in a rich and flavour-packed tomato sauce.

Heritage tomatoes were superior to the usual pallid varieties we get in the UK, partly helped by a dressing which seemed to intensify their ripe, summery flavour.

A ‘white pizza’ (no tomato) topped with anchovy had appealingly chewy dough, crisp in places.

The differences to the other Polpos are subtle.

This one has a larger bar than its counterparts.
