Sushi Masa has impressed me so much over last year, since taking over from the previously and execution of Sashimi and Nigiri, which is something as It was previously I continue eat here twice a week.

It's authentic and well sourced Japanese cuisine expertly prepared with friendly and profession al staff.

For me this place is without doubt the best restaurant for miles and one of the best (top 5) Japanese restaurant s in London.

wonderful Sushi Say.

There was a short wine list, but it is one of those where they don’t bother to list the vintages of the wine, so don’t get too excited.

Why a restaurant would go to the trouble of providing tasting notes for wines yet omitting their vintages is baffling to me (other than the saving on reprinting the list each year).

Wines started at £18.60 and included Casablanca Valley Sauvignon Blanc Reserva Cefiro at £26 for a wine that you can buy in a shop for around £7, Quarry Road Estate Te Kauwhata Pinot Noir at £28 for a wine that retails at around £10 and Chablis St Valentin Domaine Vacoret was £33 for a wine that costs around £14 in the shops.

I began with some tuna sushi (£2.80 per piece), which had rice at the correct body temperature that had a little wasabi pre-applied, with tuna that was pleasant rather than dazzling in its texture; fish here comes from Billingsgate market rather than from a specialist Japanese supplier (13/20).

Grilled eel (£16.60) was served in a lacquer box on a bed of rice, with a soy-based sauce that had blended into the bed of rice beneath.

A Japanese eatery in Willesden Green has been named one of the top five restaurants in London in the £40- to £49-a-head category by a respected eating guide.

Sushi-Say in Walm Lane came fourth in the pricing bracket in the newly-published Harden's London Restaurants 2015 book, the original 'user-generated content' survey conducted by restaurantgoers.

Harden's website gives Sushi-Say five stars out of five for food, four for service and two for ambience.

It sums up the place as: "Don’t let the unlikely Willesden Green location fool you – this unassuming café is 'definitely one of London’s best Japanese restaurants', and 'proof that authentic Japanese grub needn’t leave you hungry and bankrupt!'"

The top-five placing in the Harden's survey follows the receipt in September of a Bib Gourmand - an accolade given by Michelin Guides to outlets that serve 'good food at moderate prices'.

For more than two decades, the wife-and-husband team at Sushi Masa have been dishing up an ample selection of Japanese staples at this inconspicuous Willesden haunt.

Locals come back time and again, so the dining room is almost always full; even if you’re planning on eating early, it’s worth booking.

The chef/proprietor mans the counter at the front, where he crafts all manner of sushi, thickly slicing the faultlessly fresh fish.

The extensive menu includes sushi, tempura, noodles, grilled fish, simmered dishes – name any form of classic Japanese cooking, and Sushi-Say probably does it.

From the list of reasonably priced set lunches, the salt-grilled mackerel was sweet-fleshed and also large.
