El Ganso Cafe

elgansocafe.co.uk - The new tapas restaurant bar in Broadway Market @No 59

El Ganso is situated on Broadway Market, a busy traditional market street since the 1890s, now a chic down-to-earth hang out.

On Saturdays the market comes alive with artisan stalls selling anything from home-made sour dough bread to vintage handbags which creates a bustling must-see location for Londoners and tourists, offering many exciting independent boutiques and restaurants too.

The restaurant itself is a comfortable meeting ground for young hipsters, families, friends and business people alike.

The venue is cosy, with comfortable banquette seating at the sides and small intimate tables in the centre that double up for larger bookings.

We have alfresco seating at the front of the restaurant on a buzzing market street.

I listen to classical music CDs, however I have almost none musical background and only a little classical music concert experience, so I felt very inexperienced in the rows, thus I cannot comment on how James Rhodes performed that evening.

He seems kind of an ambassador of classical music who wants to spread the word and music amongst even those that usually don't listen to classical music.

The plays combined with the factual background is a great way of putting it out there!

At some point he was playing so fast...my eyes lost clear views of his moving hands.

I told her it was... then she said her first time was 6 months ago when and elderly gentleman sitting next to her had told her that she would come back for a 2nd, 3rd etc time to see James Rhodes' talented persona again and there she was...it was a good start!

At El Ganso the curious diner can enjoy an original breakfast menu and a tasty and vibrant tapas menu for lunch and evening meals.

Buen Ayre is a small restaurant with delicious food on the pricier side, but offers lunch specials for those curious to try.

On Broadway Market, the restaurant is small but inviting, and can tick all the boxes for delicious pizza, good service, and supreme consistency.

The iconic walls, along with the mismatched tables and chairs, give the café a relaxed and comfortable feel, perfect for an easy day on Broadway Market.

Market Cafe’s menu is filled with modern European classics, from pancakes with bananas and pecan on their lunch menu, to quinoa salad with spinach and sweet potato for brunch, and corn-fed chicken supreme with rosti and bacon.

Despite having walked up the length of Broadway Market many a Saturday, I’m struggling to remember ever seeing Spanish restaurant El Ganso.

But like a true tapas joint, it fills out later in the evening, to the point where we’re practically sharing tables.

Given the rustic restaurant aesthetic, with exposed bricks and Moorish tiling, we’re expecting some equally classic tapas.

Filled with the likes of albondigas (meatballs), tortilla and croquetas, it’s hardly a ground-breaking read.

But dishes are a sweet surprise when they arrive, served in a way that defies expectation.
