The Great Exhibition

The Great Exhibition

Great Exhibition

In a similar fashion to its 1851 namesake, the Great Exhibition is a glorious space in which free thinking people can celebrate the wonders of life.

The exhibits today may not be as weird and wonderful as those that came from the four corners of the world all those years ago, but if you like to witness great food, beer and service in a convivial atmosphere and an off the wall environment, then the Great Exhibition has all the exhibits you need.

With imagery that nods to great exhibitionists old and new and décor references to the exhibition itself, the comfortable and quirky interior of the Great Exhibition invites East Dulwich residents to join Nick and his team in continuing a celebration of life.

Great Exhibition | Londonist

This pub was voted the best in Dulwich by Londonist readers.

East Dulwich is a superb area for a pub crawl, and there's no finer place to start, finish, or linger than the Great Exhibition.

The food offering also looks good, as evinced by the large number of families dotted around the place, tucking in to something warming.

The place was almost full to seating capacity at 3pm on the Monday after Christmas, which tells you something about its popularity.

We'll have to return in summer to try the small beer garden, and linger for a little longer.

food

We originally went to the Great Exhibition for Sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago but left disappointed as they were fully booked.

So to avoid disappointment I booked for last Sunday and arrived with great expectations, how quickly my mood changed.

What made matters worse was the table was located no more than a metre away from a live jazz band.

No apology, more of a we are so busy we don't really care and if you don't take the table then I'm sure three tiny jazz loving children can enjoy the table.

Sadly you don't need to do anymore than that to be banged out in East Dulwich on Sunday lunchtime.

drinks

Named after the former event that could once be seen from the pub, The Great Exhibition in East Dulwich is a tucked away suburban hideout with two beer garden areas.

The wine list is made up of varietals that many will find unusual and many small family growers have been added to keep things balanced.

Many of the wines are available by the glass.

The pub also has its own house blend hand-roasted coffee supplied by Small Batch.

The recent Gin Yard keeps things interesting at this pub, as do the weekly Ale & Pie Society events and tastings, the real ale festivals, and the Saturday Artisan Markets until midday which local stallholders use to sell handmade crafts around the pub’s exterior.
