Tell us about Vanbrugh House Hotel Turn the corner at the end of Oxford’s bustling high street and you will find a beautiful 18th century building on a quiet road – this is the Vanbrugh House Hotel.

As with the rest of Oxford, the building has a rich history, in fact, the wall behind the breakfast bar is one of the few surviving parts of Oxford’s medieval city wall.

As the 38 grand colleges are dotted around the cobbled streets, it would be nearly impossible to walk around Oxford without visiting one, even if only to peek over the garden wall to watch students playing croquet.

The starting place for prime ministers and politicians and host to historical figures like Malcolm X and O.J Simpson, it’s a fascinating place to visit.

I hope you enjoy this video with tour of my room at Vanbrugh House Hotel If you can’t see the video review of Vanbrugh House Hotel, you can see it on my blog here or Youtube here and please do subscribe using the button above Subscribe to all my videos in I-tunes When I visited the Vanbrugh House Hotel, I was charmed to find that all the rooms are named for different people or places that were connected with the hotel.

The Vanbrugh House Hotel is located right in the centre of Oxford, down a quiet side street that is blocked off at one end.

Although I found St Michael’s Street to be pretty quiet, the hotel is next to a restaurant and opposite the Oxford Union which is known for its student debates, so at weekends or on certain days I imagine that it could be much busier in the evenings.

Vanbrugh House Hotel makes a charming base for couples, small groups of friends and solo travellers who want to be in the heart of Oxford’s historic centre.

If you’re hungry in the evening there is a room service menu but the guest sitting area is small, so this hotel is best suited for those who want to spend their time sightseeing and enjoy eating out in the many pubs and restaurants nearby.

The Vanbrugh House Hotel

A stylishly decorated boutique hotel in an 18th-century house opposite the Oxford Union buildings with smart, well-equipped rooms and friendly staff.

The hotel is in a hard-to-beat location, within easy walking distance of Oxford’s colleges, museum, theatre and shops.

A handsome pub and dining room on Colomb Street, a short walk from the centre of Greenwich.

In addition to the food and drink, visitors head down to watch the big sport matches as well as for special events and the weekly pub quiz - there's even a prize for the best name.

The beer selection is good enough to attract the ale hounds of SE10, with three Meantimes on draught alongside the house brew (an IPA) and regularly changing guest beers on the hand pull.

There’s also a great selection of bottled local craft beers, from the likes of The Kernel, Beavertown, Weird Beard and Pressure Drop.

The food menu is typical gastropub fare, with dishes ranging from pan-fried duck breast with blueberries, chive, risotto and watercress to racks of lamb, fillet steaks and pan-fried sea bass with asparagus spears and mussels cooked in white wine, shallots, garlic and saffron cream sauce.
