LAKSA CURRY | ZAIBATSU | £6.50 — LONDON CHEAP EATS
Zaibatsu is a busy neighbourhood gem in SE10, serving pan-Asian classics from low key premises in gigantic proportions.
It honestly doesn't look like much from the outside, yet Zaibatsu was heaving on the Monday evening I visited, so I knew they were doing something right.
Their menu is primarily Japanese but also includes hits from across Asia, such as roast duck noodle soup (£6.50), Singapore rice noodles (£5.50) or Malaysian curry laksa (£6.50).
I went for the laksa: delicate rice noodles in fragrant, coconut curry soup, alongside prawns, squid, chicken, and spongy tofu cubes, which soak up the mildly spicy broth like a dream.

Just popped into Zaibatsu on Trafalgar Road on the way home from the Picture House tonight to find out from the owner that it is currently ranked as the No.2 restaurant in London on Tripavisor!!
So I’m asking you guys – is this really as good as the reviewers on Tripadvisor say?
I do note a fair few of the reviewers have only posted one review on Tripadvisor, which makes the Phantom radar twitch a little, but that could be down to them having had one good experience and wanting to share it.
Sounds like the owners of Zaibatsu have got a good thing going and if they’re wise, they’ll keep that recipe – and the quality – as it is – a hidden jewel.

Come here for tasty dragon rolls, laksa and amazing salt and pepper squid if you are hungry.
Do not leave without enjoying fantastic green tea ice cream, chocolate fondant and wonderful chocolate custard.
According to the visitors' opinions, waiters serve terrific coffee, ice tea or tasty iced green tea.
You will appreciate great prices.
But this restaurant has been rated below average by Zomato reviewers.
