Panzo Pizza | Exmouth Market - EC1R, London

Panzo, Exmouth Market, review: 'Beautiful pizza, beautiful décor ...

Review analysis
food

Zoe Paskett visits Panzo, Exmouth Market’s new pizza place that uses a special twice cooked rice dough Terrariums, succulents, drinks on tap, copper covered everything – I mean everything, including the air conditioning unit.

The décor is just as beautiful as their pizzas, arranged in the window to call people in from competitive Exmouth Market.

The owner, Anna Skigin, explains that the USP of their pizzas (and with Pizza Pilgrims just down the road, they need one) is the dough.

Bruce is a delicious charcuterie board, which I munch my way through with a little bread, and Tina is a rich and creamy Burratina, a mozzarella pouch filled with velvety cheese.

My friend opts for St. Paulo, with wild mushrooms, goat cheese, gorgonzola, mozzarella, truffle.

ambience   food

Panzo Pizza is Exmouth Market’s latest on-trend eatery, with Scandi-style interiors, light, healthy pizza bases and original toppings.

The Resident tries it out… Having our Indian friend Kuldeep to stay who’d (a) never been to London and (b) is a very strict veggie came with its own very special set of challenges.

Instead, new pizzeria on the block, Panzo Pizza in buzzing Exmouth Market, proved to be the ideal spot to introduce him to our never ending love of pizza and a very easy place to take a committed veggie.

Add to that first-class toppings like goat’s cheese, pumpkin, pine nuts, gorgonzola, raisins and apples, and you know instantly that it’s a cut above your usual Pizza Express.

After a fantastic and generous salad to start, Kuldeep tried the St Paolo (wild mushrooms, goat cheese, Gorgonzola and truffle) and we sampled the Triple P (with a pumpkin base and pancetta).

There's a new Neapolitan pizza restaurant on the way to Exmouth Market.

On top of those pizzas, expect  toppings that include - mushroom, mozzarella, goat cheese, stilton, pine nuts with a drizzle of honey, pumpkin, courgette, mozzarella and ham and gorgonzola, raisins & apple.

They'll also have salads daily salads and mezzo with expect buffalo mozzarella from Naples, grilled mixed market vegetables, chopped tomato salad and cured meats.

That's a sandwich with charred whole wheat dough from the oven, stuffed with fillings like tomato and stracchino cheese.

So other than picture-perfect moments, what can you expect when dining at Panzo London?

Creating, serving and eating pizza and Italian food is what this Clerkenwell crew does best and the results are up there with the best in town.

Then, if you’re a traditional Italian lover, the lasagna is filled with slow-cooked beef and pork ragu, mozzarella and parmigiano reggiano, while the Sicilian arancini balls filled with mushroom and mozzarella go down an absolute treat.

At Panzo, you’ll find a selection including Easy V topped with pumpkin cream, aubergine, courgettes, roasted tomatoes, basil and salt-cured Sicilian ricotta; Mikey featuring homemade tomato and basil sauce, mozzarella, onions, fennel-infused salami and black olives, and St Paolo loaded with gorgonzola cream, roast mushrooms and truffle oil.

With plenty more besides, including the famous tiramisu, you’re best off booking a table at Panzo London and trying it for yourself.

An Exmouth Market pizzeria with its own lighter, crispier dough.

Did Exmouth Market need a new pizzeria?

But Panzo does have a USP: its special dough.

Apart from that, Panzo is essentially a cute neighbourhood pizzeria: a comfy yellow box of a dining room with laminated menus and wine on tap.

It may not stand out on Exmouth Market, but if it opened on my street I’d be there every week.
