Beef short rib comes with bone marrow ketchup and roast baby gem lettuce.

You could have a side dish of “bone marrow fried gnocchi” and, to finish, “Dr Pepper sticky bourbon cake” with bourbon burnt butter and cream.

Because, while the young team at Flank aren’t quite equipped to execute all of their menu yet, I’m going to take the things that worked as a marker of very good things to come from them in the future.

No beef shin donut or chicken thigh with XO sauce tonight, but there are other very good things.

I try to establish in what way the “Shabbat half chicken” is Jewish, as the menu claims.

Roadtrip and The Workshop - 243 Old Street, Shoreditch, London ...

The Venue Situated a stone's throw from Old Street tube station, this bar has a fantastic location and can’t be missed in its prime position on the main road.

The actual bar is a decent size, with a live music venue, Workshop, downstairs and a large outside terrace with plenty of seating and plants to make the street-side slightly more pleasant.

Seating takes the form of red leather sofas, wooden tables and chairs and bar stools, and there's plenty of it, while the kitchen is open at the end of the large bar that runs down one end of the venue.

The Atmosphere Staff are friendly, while the venue attracts less hipsters than some east London bars, instead pulling in a mixture of people who've just hopped off the tube and jumped into the first bar in Shoreditch and those who've paid the venue a visit to see live music.

The Last Word Spacious, cocktail-focused and great for live music, it might lack the 'cool' tag that some of the neighbouring bars carry, but you could do a lot worse than this Old Street venue.
