Giacobazzi’s is a much-loved neighbourhood Italian deli, run by Raff and Renata and their family since 1991.

They do just about everything Italian you might need or know about – but what sets them apart is their home-made pasta, prepared in the kitchens behind the shop.

This is truly outstanding and includes particular delights for veggies such as goronzola and walnut tortelloni or the sublime mushroom and truffle ravioli, and a fabulous porcini lasagna (£18 for a large dish good for 4–5 people).

They’re good on seasonal Italian treats, too.

Initially working part-time, Roberto was able to work at Giacobazzi’s as he completed his university studies and then pursued his own business for a while as a chef running his own modern Italian restaurant popup.

However, he found himself constantly being drawn back to Giacobazzi’s, and incredible familiarity and knowledge of the kitchen and customer service teams made him the perfect candidate for the role of Manager.

For some of the staff working at Giacobazzi’s, their knowledge and desire to learn more about Italian food and culture has grown over time, others have applied their inherent passion to their role.

Some customers travel across London just to do their weekly food shop at Giacobazzi’s!

The team at Giacobazzi’s is comprised of people from all over Europe, all sharing their passion for italian food and culture.

Where to find London's best Italian delis - Montcalm Hotel London

If you’d like to have a go at recreating these meals yourself when you’re back home, London is home to some excellent Italian delis where you can pick up traditional ingredients.

Also situated in Soho is I Camisa & Sons, which is widely regarded as the best place in London to purchase fresh Italian pasta and accompanying sauces, while its dried porcini mushrooms and Sicilian sausages are loved far and wide.

The deli sells every type of Italian food you could imagine, including pasta, pizza, freshly-baked bread, sweets, cheeses, meats, oils, paninis, spices and even wine.

Giacobazzi’s also has an onsite cafe, where you can enjoy a fine Italian espresso or cappuccino while indulging in one of the deli’s gorgeous ciabatta rolls or a plateful of pasta.

Italy’s Pulia region is responsible for 40 per cent of the country’s olive oil production, with examples of this available to purchase in the deli, along with artisan pasta, Italian cheeses, freshly-baked focaccia and sweet pastries filled with apricots, honey or chocolate.

First you get large, very fresh eggs; then a packet of special pasta flour; then one of those little chrome-plated roller machines (or a rolling pin the size of a broom handle) and within seconds you're supposed to knock up a batch of silky pasta with which you can craft small, elegant ravioli that never burst when dunked in boiling water.

The big supermarkets also sell mass-produced fresh pasta, but the tortellini tends to be a little bit too thick and sometimes chewy.

Asparagus and ricotta tortellini £9.70 per kg; artichoke, ricotta and truffle oil tortellini £9.70 per kg; sun-dried tomato, buffalo mozzarella and basil tortellini £9.90 per kg; pumpkin and ricotta tortellini £9.90 per kg; four cheese tortellini £8.80 per kg.

Pumpkin ravioli £7.20 per kg; spinach and ricotta tortellini £6.10 per kg; meat ravioli £6.10 per kg; cannelloni £7.20 per kg.

Ricotta and spinach tortellini £13 per kg; artichoke, wild mushroom and cheese capaletti £13 per kg; meat ravioli £13 per kg.

Customers queue patiently at this beloved Hampstead Heath deli to get their hands on Giacobazzi’s selection of own-made dishes.

The selections of cheese and especially meat are ample and outstanding, and can be put together as the basis for bespoke party platters to take away (minimum three days' notice).

Giacobazzi’s can deliver everything you’ll need for your meal, from the breadsticks and olives to the seasonal cakes, but for those who can’t be bothered to put it together themselves, Giacobazzi’s has a restaurant over the road.
