My husband ended up being turned into a junk food tribal warrior in James’s last exhibition Wotsit All About (Gazelli Art House, 39 Dover Street, London, W1S 4NN, 020 7491 8816), and I ended up as an 1960s nude replica Carlo Molino muse for Sam Roddick’s Hidden Within,  which was at the Michael Hoppen gallery (3 Jubilee Place, London SW3 3TD, 020 7352 3649),  earlier this year.

The clothes are a well-curated selection of Vivienne Westwood, Margiela and Jil Sander, as well as some lovely Margaret Howell basics. We use to live next to Spitalfields Market (16 Horner Square, Spitalfields, London, E1 6EW, 020 7375 2963), so we do still like to see our old stomping ground - stroll up Brick Lane, head round to Spitalfields and then up to Boxpark (2-10 Bethnal Green Road, London, E1 6GY, 020 7033 2899) and Shoreditch High Street.

For tea we often go to Embassy East on Hoxton Street (285 Hoxton Street, London N1 5JX, 020 7739 8340),  or Long White Cloud (151 Hackney Road, Hoxton, E2 8JL, 020 7033 4642), which has the best banana bread in London.

I can’t resist dropping into I Love Gorgeous, 73 Regents Park Road, London NW1 8UY, 020 7586 1552, www.ilovegorgeous.co.uk), a beautiful little girls clothes shop, as lovely as you would expect in Primrose Hill.

I’d been told by a Brit workmate that ‘you Kiwi’s really do know how to do proper café food and lovely presentation’ and when he explained this café called ‘the long white cloud’ that he had visited, I knew I just had to check it out!

For those of you that aren’t Kiwis, New Zealand is known as ‘Aotearoa’ in Maori, meaning the ‘land of the long white cloud’.

I decided to eat something a bit different with a dish of French toast, while my friend (who had been drooling over the kiwi products on the shelf) decided to go for the free-range scrambled eggs with salmon and a side of L&P to prove that despite only being out of New Zealand a few months there is still need for Kiwi products (my Kiwi order from SANZA had already been made a few days before).

The café doesn’t quite have that sandy beach flavour that I’d imagine it would if was in the Bay of Plenty or Coromandel in New Zealand, but we are in London, so instead it goes for a bit of a rustic friendly feel to it with artwork on the walls and lovely smelling coffee to entice you in.

So if you’re up for a quiet Sunday brunch or a calming escape from the hipster vibe of East London, check out the long white cloud here.

The name comes from the Maori name for their country: Aotearoa, ‘Land of the Long White Cloud’, and generally suggests something more beautiful than a café on Hackney Road.

The owners have done their best with the long white premises, but the place still looks slightly cold, with the decorative touches (plants, walls used as exhibition space) and second-hand furniture not managing to tip the balance towards homely.

A full English breakfast was a proper reviver – flavour-packed and fresh-tasting, while scrambled eggs with green chilli was cooked just so, and had a delightful kick.

One of the owners is a Kiwi, and there are a few nods to NZ (kumara – sweet potato – chips, for example, and a few packaged goods).

As well as breakfast items, there are simple dishes such as frittata with salads, sandwiches, and a small range of cakes.
