The Flask in Hampstead, London Pub Review and Details

One of the Wells & Young's pubs to undergo a recentish refit, the changes here actually haven't been as dramatic as in other old Young's pubs, mostly due to the elegant partition which separates the pub into two distinct bars remaining in place.

The smaller 'public' bar to the left of the partition was always more of a traditional drinking area to the 'saloon' to the right, and this feel has definitely been maintained along with the lovingly preserved interior (and that's not always the case ).

This one will still prove a popular spot for locals and visitors to Hampstead alike, and when we last looked in was proving popular with local parents with their prams (a delight to some, a hindrance to others).

2 South Place Chop House’s Sunday roast with bottomless wine South Place Chop House’s traditional roast menu includes a choice of whole roast chicken with crispy potatoes and bread sauce, succulent sirloin of beef with crispy roasts and Yorkshire pudding, or tender shoulder lamb with balsamic onions and mashed potato.

3 South Place EC2M 2AF; 020 3503 0000;  southplacehotel.com 4 Oblix’s Sunday Roast in the Sky  Oblix’s Sunday Roast in the Sky elevates the beloved British classic by offering decadent dishes including the fabulous suckling pig with crispy crackling, a huge rib of beef on the bone and rotisserie duck with all the trimmings – served 32 floors up in The Shard.

Choose from starters like chicken and black trumpet ballotine or salad of Heirloom tomatoes with white almond gazpacho, followed by a pot roast suprême of Landes with herb gnocchi or roast Lake District rump of beef with Yorkshire pudding, fine beans, roasted potatoes and glazed carrots.

Their Sunday roast of Longhorn beef rump served with roast potatoes, greens and bacon, roast carrots, parsnips and cauliflower cheese is perfection, but don’t miss out on their regular menu.

You’ll find classic combinations from wonderful seasonal produce such as Sausage Roll with Gooseberry & Apple Sauce (£6) or Roast Beetroot Salad, Home Smoked Salmon, Horseradish & Rye (£6) to start, or just skip straight to the real deal with Roast Chicken, Stuffing, Roast Potatoes & Vegetables (£14.50), Slow Roast Pork, Apple & Gooseberry Sauce, Roast Potatoes & Vegetables (£14.50) or Roast Topside of Beef, Horseradish, Yorkshire Pudding, Roast Potatoes & Vegetables (£19.50).

The Flask is a Grade II listed public house at 14 Flask Walk, Hampstead, London,[1] on the site from where the trade in Hampstead mineral water was run, and which is mentioned in the eighteenth century novel Clarissa.

[1][5][6] On the site stood the original Flask Tavern from where the Hampstead mineral water business was run from at least 1700.

[6] According to CAMRA, the outstanding features of the interior are the wood and glass screen that separates the two bars, and the five chromolithographs of paintings by the Belgian artist Jan Van Beers.

[8] Historic England comment on the relatively intact nature of the interior, noting the partitions made of glass and mahogany, the bar counter and fittings, the original cast-iron fireplaces and their tiled surrounds, the moulded cornices to the ceilings, the wall tiles and the "Victorian chromolithographs".

[1] The artist Charles Ginner's 1937 painting Flask Walk, Hampstead, on Coronation Day shows the vista down Flask Walk as seen from the upstairs of his residence at 61 Hampstead High Street, and includes The Flask on the right-hand side of the image.

The Flask pub in Hampstead is a beautiful Victorian treasure that's become a modern example of the traditional London pub.

You'll love The Flask for its stunning décor that's rich in its history with a typical and well restored wooden bar and antique pictures, while the conservatory is the perfect sun trap that gives The Flask a bright and airy feel.

There's plenty of places to sit too no matter what you're there for with a choice of bar stools and cosy tables that create a friendly and sociable ambience that The Flask is famous for.

Being a Youngs pub you can expect a wide range of old and new world wines while the cask ale options rotate with the seasons to guarantee you an enjoyable drinking experience in London.

The same could be said for the food menus; which are designed to cater for those looking to dine on great British staples such as 21 day aged steak, or those who want a light bite in between drinks which you can order at the bar.
