KraPow LDN

NORTHERN THAI street food. KraPow LDN is a fresh and new approach to Thai food in London

KraPow London

Our Aim: To expand the palates of London folk when it comes to Thai food.

For years, Thai food in London has been dumbed-down and dull, typically rich and sweet, and served out of chain restaurants and supermarket aisles, like boring and bland Pad Thai or Green Chicken Curry.

We can count London’s good Thai restaurants on one hand, so we were delighted to learn that KraPow LDN have moved to Clapton, taking over the old Shane’s spot on Chatsworth Road.

The goal was to show us Londoners that there was more to Thai food than the ubiquitous Thai green curry.

Luckily their Northern Thai menu went down a treat – particularly the Moo Ping – sweet, marinated pork chunks served with a sweet, spicy and sour ‘Nam Jim Jaew’ dipping sauce which went on to win the Mayor of London’s #MyLondonDish 2017.

there are a few new dishes for their bricks and mortar launch, one of which is Thai fried chicken, with that award-winning sauce.

However our favourite dish was their signature KraPow Moo – perfectly seasoned spicy chilli and basil pork mince stir fry with rice finished with a fried egg on top for good measure.

Londoners have taken a shine to hipster coffee houses the like of which you find deep in Angel's lanes; small, independent distilleries pop up as they do around Victoria Park, and food markets, such as on Druid Street are becoming ever more prevalent.

So when the London Foodguide told us about Kra Pow London, we just had to check it out.

You'd be forgiven for being unaware of Druid Street Market, what with it just being a year old, but with gems like Kra Pow London calling it home, it's one you're going to want to get to know.

And so Kra Pow London was born - with two husky men who love their food at the helm.

So rather gladly Kra Pow have only 4 dishes to pick from the menu, all authentic Thai fare designed to transport you to the tropics.

Now is the perfect time to start growing your own herbs on the kitchen window sill - forget the hydroponic, tasteless potted herbs from the supermarket and avoid burning your money by buying packet 'fresh' herbs!

I've seen mint, that grows like bramble in the spring and summer for £15-£23 per kg!

You can reuse an old pot or any suitable container to grow herbs in.

Seeds last for 2-3 years, so 1 packet of seeds is great value and will last a few seasons.

If you spend a few hours over the weekend setting up your kitchen, filling the 'dry store' and fridge, you'll find yourself thinking of ways to incorporate all your amazingly tasty fresh herbs, spices and ingredients.
