OBICA MOzZARELLA BAR CHARLOTTE STREET REVIEW

Review analysis
food   staff   menu

The menu offers a good variety of delicious Italian dishes.

Pizza, pasta, ham and last but not least mozzarella.

Our pizza of choice was the Prosciutto Cotto E Carciofini (£14) which had roasted ham, grilled artichokes, casatica di bufala, buffalo mozzarella, olives and oregano.

Mainly because of the tough texture of the pasta but also, it didn’t stand out in comparison to the other dishes.

OBICA MOZZARELLA BAR CHARLOTTE STREET REVIEW SUMMARY I think overall the food was great and I’ll 100% be back for the burrata alone.

This Poland Street branch of the Obicà  group is one of five currently in London.

It's a chain specialising in authentic Italian dishes and buffalo mozzarella - a cheese they source direct from Campania, and one that makes its way to Obicà's plates within 48 hours.

It can be sampled at the mozzarella bar, where diners can choose from four different varieties as well as bocconcini balls or a kilo of the stuff on its own - served with basil pesto, sun-dried tomato pesto and focaccia.

They recommend you pair it with small plates, such as prosciutto, salami, olive oil cured tuna or caponata alla Siciliana - a dish of aubergine, pine nuts, almonds, raisins, capers and vinegar.

Larger dishes include lasagne, tagliolini with black truffles from San Miniato, pappardelle with a Tuscan sausage ragu and pizzas, such as a margherita or one topped with n'duja and burrata, made with stone-ground Petra flour.

This spacious spot on Draycott Avenue is the original branch of what now constitute five Obicà venues in London.

As with all the Obicà venues, both in the UK and abroad, the focus here is on buffalo mozzarellas, though other Italian produce and dishes also feature.

It's available on its own but also on a menu ranging from salumi boards, bruschetta, roasted marinated artichokes and Sicilian aubergine casserole to tuna fillets, Cetara anchovies with sun-dried tomatoes, pizzas, pasta dishes and secondis of sea bass, aubergine parmigiana and rib-eye tagliata.
