Restaurant Review: Redemption Bar, Notting Hill - Good Things

The brainchild of two female entrepreneurs: Catherine Salway, with a background in business at Virgin; and Andrea Waters, an experienced restauranteur and raw chef, Redemption has been deemed as one of the coolest places to find a vegan bite, serving up sin-free food in both Notting Hill and Shoreditch.

I take the plunge and visit the Notting Hill site with a friend on a drizzly January night, arriving to find a little chic restaurant tucked away on a side street.

The fresh jackfruit mimics the textures of pulled pork excellently, and the added fresh turmeric, lime and ginger adds a spicy kick that has me digging my spoon in again and again.

Food here is saintly but doesn’t taste like cardboard, making it excellent for ‘vegan virgins’ venturing out into the great unknown of trendy plant-based lifestyles.

Dishes on offer don’t sound like typical diet food either.

Redemption Bar, London’s fastest growing vegan restaurant, has launched its second restaurant.

Following the success of its Notting Hill venue, the team has launched Redemption Shoreditch Fast becoming London’s top vegan restaurant, Redemption serves up delicious-yet-nutritious sugar-free, wheat-free vegan dishes and non-alcoholic cocktails.

‘Shoreditch has always been the number one on Redemption’s hit list,’ says Catherine.

Redemption Bar in London serves up seriously delicious 100% vegan, wheat and refined sugar-free meals alongside an alcohol-free bar.

of wine, I don’t love that feeling of being bloated, tired and generally like my body is rejecting all the toxins I’m throwing at it; Redemption Bar takes away the temptations and lets you have a night out but a night off.

There are currently two locations in Notting Hill and Shoreditch; although with the buzz and popularity they are experiencing we doubt it’ll be too long before the nation demands more Redemption Bars!

There is a real buzz about Redemption Bar and it’s no exaggeration to say it’s the hot place to be seen currently; Helmsley + Helmsley have recommended them as one of the world’s best healthy restaurants in Conde Nast Traveller – just make sure you book!

Its glowy angel mural provides an Instagram opportunity before you even get inside; the cocktails are showy enough for any digital feed (they’re alcohol-free, by the way); and, of course, there’s free wi-fi for tweeting through your visit.

Which isn’t to say the food is purely about aesthetics – some dishes tasted great.

Other dishes held their own: the veg and quinoa sushi was nutty and had a nice crunch, although a dose of wasabi wouldn’t have gone amiss, and the black rice risotto was substantial and nicely vinegary.

But there were dishes spoiled by their apparent need to be photographed.

But hey, if your Instagram feed is hungrier than your belly, you’ll probably be pretty happy eating here.
