Matsya (Contemporary Indian Fine Dining) - Mayfair, London - Feed ...

In fact, one area that Matsya believes will make it stand out from the competition, are dishes from the Eastern region of India that have hitherto never been introduced to London, at least not in the way this “Contemporary Indian Dining” promises.

While the combination of the naturally sweet lobster along with the mildly cheesy, vinegary sauce was good enough on its own, it was made even better with a squeeze of the lime and the resulting sharp, tangy aftertaste.

Though gorgeously soft in texture, what made this dish such a tongue-tingling one was the marriage between the sharp and tangy onion-based sauce and the sweetness of the tamarind, along with a smokiness tamely lingering in the background.

And though there’s no real need for the lemon, the combination of the mint sauce and the spiced onions were a good touch.

With a spongy bottom, crispy top and soft interior, the harmony achieved with the mixture of spices in this Bharwan Gucchi Kebab was one of soothing warmth, and quite enjoyable minus the default mint sauce.

Matsya is a contemporary Indian “fine dining” venue that’s recently opened in the upmarket district of Mayfair.

With the restaurant’s bar located on the first floor only, Matsya has been taking bookings since opening last month.

Final touches to the place means that both the upstairs dining area and the private dining room downstairs in the basement will only be available after Matsya’s grand opening on 1st April.

Taking inspiration from Hindu mythology and the story of Matsya the fish, which represents the beginning of life and a fresh start, the restaurant promises to “take you on a culinary journey to understand how we have breathed new life into your traditional favourites”.

Therefore, expect the following as a sample of Matsya’s culinary innovation, which includes Australian Halal Wagyu that’s been graded a Beef Marble Score (BMS) of 8-9, and which, FtL has been informed by the suppliers Freedown Food, is the “highest grading” and “equivalent to [Japanese] Kobe cuisine”:

Located just off Piccadilly, on Curzon Street, this classy Mayfair restaurant goes big on authentic Indian flavours.

But if that all sounds too fancy?

They do 'frankies', too – a classic Bombay street food.

The decor is on the fancy side (well it is Mayfair) without being too ostentatious (although there is a showstopper of a chandelier above the entrance).
