Playboy Club London review - six out of ten

So when I heard the Playboy Club was a. open to non-members, b. hosting a special pink afternoon tea to commemorate breast cancer awareness, and c. was in partnership with Salvatore Calabrese, maker of the world’s most expensive cocktail, I was intrigued.

After getting settled, Martina, our bunny, handed us a menu and asked us to choose a tea, from fruity to floral.

At £30 a head (with £1 being donated to breast cancer research) we thought this was really competitive with the scores of other places service afternoon tea in the area, less alcoholic beverage.

The bunnies were more than happy to take any dietary requirements or substitutions which was a good touch.

Salvatore’s is open to non-members but head upstairs, as we did on our tour held by Bunny Hannah, and you see where the 1% come to play.

As a world-famous icon, the Playboy Club has finally hit London.

An exclusive members' club, this offers a leading cocktail bar, a club, great restaurant and of course, the iconic casino with the beautiful Bunny Girl croupiers.

The groundfloor cocktail bar Salvatore at Playboy is run by the legendary mixologist Salvatore Calabrese (ex Fifty St James and Lanesborough) who has created some delicious and inventive cocktails to accompany the classics and draws on his own personal collection of rare spirits and liqueurs dating back to the 1700s.

The Cottontail Lounge offers a retro nightclub experience and has played host to a number of .

Upstairs there‘s a members lounge, table games and high-limit salon privé gaming room, not to mention one of the coolest cigar terraces in the capital.

Occasional predictions that Korean cuisine would become the next big thing haven't come to much, and only now a few food types are becoming au fait with kimchi, kalbi, bulgogi, gochujang sauce, and all the other specialties on which the world has been missing out.

Source: JinJuu via Bloomberg I wonder how many people in London could name a single Korean restaurant, or even a dish, with the possible exception of kimchi, that hot and spicy serving of fermented vegetables.

Source: JinJuu via Bloomberg Fortunately, she also serves Korean dishes of a standard you'd expect to find in a more traditional restaurant, such as the nearby Koba.

This is a rice dish with vegetables, a fried egg, gochujang sauce, and (optional) meat served in a heated granite stone bowl.

Source: JinJuu via Bloomberg It's presumptuous for a new restaurant to claim a signature dish, but the whole Korean fried chicken, which costs 39 pounds ($58.57) and serves four, is certainly eye-catching.

Owning membership to the Playboy Club became something of a status symbol in the 1960s, and some of the biggest names in the city would often be seen relaxing in the Playboy Club.

One of the things that made the Playboy Club London so unique in the 1960s was that it was the first Playboy Club to allow gambling.

Executive chef Judy Joo manages the Playboy Club London’s Dining Room, the club’s in-house restaurant, which is open from 12pm – 1:30am.

Of course, the Playboy Club London’s function rooms are also open for reservations and bookings, should you want to celebrate your special occasions in style.

When the first Playboy Club opened in Chicago in the 1960s, their membership fees were an exorbitant $25 a year.

Members can enjoy table games such as American roulette, three card poker, blackjack and punto banco in one very swanky setting, with Playboy Bunnies dealing the cards and serving the drinks.

Its menu ranges from Mediterranean dips and Middle Eastern mezze to beef fillet carpaccio, oysters, caviar, wagyu steaks, Cotswold lamb cutlets and the 'Hef Burger' - a wagyu patty with truffle ketchup, skinny fries and a bespoke poker chip redeemable for a glass of champagne.

Set menus are available, too.

Expect a large collection of vintage Cognacs (some of which date back to the 18th century), classic cocktails, rare spirits and concoctions created by Salvatore himself.

For those looking for a little aural titillation, Baroque offers live music and special events with the entertainment complemented by champagne towers, canapés, cocktails and gourmet food.
