The inside of this restaurant felt a little old fashioned with dark tables, dark wood paneled walls, and faux beams on the ceiling.

Tables were spaced out quite nicely though as that can be an issue in some London restaurants were they are obviously trying to squeeze in as many tables as possible.

A number of dishes on the menu looked quite tempting but we particularly liked the fact that two of the sections, the pizza and pasta, had the option of making the dish ‘light’ and thus reducing the calories.

For the pizza dishes, the light version meant that instead of the ‘classic’ offering of a stone baked dough base, the ‘light’ version consisted of a smaller flatbread pizza base served with a mixed salad with a low calorie Italian dressing.

The pizza base was beautifully light and crispy, toppings were a little sparce (although this was the reduced calorie version) but the portion size was still quite generous for one person despite being ‘light’.

All under 650 calories and served with a side salad.

Our Prestigio pizzas are made with our larger, crispier base and topped with even more ingredients.

Our classic folded pizzas are all brushed with garlic butter and Italian cheese.

Our classic pastas.

All at 650 calories or under and served with a side salad.

Brunch at Chiltern Firehouse followed by afternoon tea at the Connaught with my mates,  culminating with a family dinner… at our local Prezzo on Hertford Street!

It’s where Lancelot “Capability” Brown, the esteemed English landscape architect, passed away over 230 years ago.

For me, it’s the service and the overall attitude of the management that are of prime importance too and this is where Prezzo Hertford Street really stands out.

As a food blogger, I have to confess that I don’t have the luxury of eating at the same restaurant too often and so I don’t visit this Prezzo as often as I used to back in the day… which is why I was so pleased to see that things hadn’t changed all that much when I dropped in with my parents last Sunday.

Wrapped in thick salted bread dough, it strikes a great balance between sweet and savoury revealing a gush of rich chocolate with each cut… Needless to say, we always have a lovely evening here and hopefully I won’t leave it till as long before my next visit back.

Prezzo, 17 Hertford Street, Mayfair, London, W1J 7RS - Italian ...

The restaurant had its street sign out advertising its food and its front door was open at 11:55am (there was no sign in the window to say when it opened).

As it looked open, our party of four went in and stood waiting to be seated.

A minute later, a very angry woman in her 50s (the manager) came out and basically told us to leave as the restaurant didn't open until midday.

We said we were sorry - the door was open and thought it was open.

She angrily continued to tell us it wasn't open and we should come back at midday (ie, three minutes later).

The Mayfair branch of this pizza chain looks more like an upmarket English pub than an Italian restaurant – all dark panelled wood and moody lighting, with tables thoughtfully spaced for a crowd consisting largely of trysting couples and map-toting tourists.

Unfortunately the food isn’t especially Italian either.

While the silky mozzarella, tomato and basil starter raised hopes, these quickly sank along with the dough of an undercooked pizza, meagrely topped and light on the love.

Pasta was better, and inexpensive, but the dish was delivered to the table with more of a slam than a smile.

With a few tweaks, Prezzo could challenge the big boys, but for now this branch has little more than a salubrious setting and low prices to recommend it.
