Ralph Lauren's Polo store on Fifth Avenue is closing and will be cutting staff, according to a statement released on Tuesday.

Product from the Fifth Avenue Polo store will be incorporated into its men's and women's Ralph Lauren flagship stores on Madison Avenue and downtown, while other Polo locations and the flagship Polo Bar Restaurant will continue operations.

"We continue to review our store footprint in each market to ensure we have the right distribution and customer experience in place," said current CFO Jane Nielsen in the release.

The Fifth Avenue store closure comes as part of the company's "Way Forward Plan," which will involve a number of restructuring and cost-cutting moves that will continue to take place through March 2018.

No word yet about when the Fifth Avenue Polo store will officially close, but we'll continue to update as more information becomes available.

If you've been to either their American or Paris spots you'll see that this has echoes of The Polo Bar, with elements of the newest addition to the brand Ralph's Coffee.

About halfway down Regent Street inside the Polo Ralph Lauren store.

There's all manner of coffees to be had during the day but yes, in the early evenings (it closes at 8pm) this would make a very nice start to the evening with one of the many classic cocktails and new drinks they've devised especially for London.

With not too much in the way to compete with it, this side of Regent Street, we reckon Ralph's Coffee & Bar is going to make a killing.

Ralph’s Coffee & Bar is at 169-173 Regent St, Mayfair, London W1B 5TQ.

From Couture to Cuisine: Ralph Lauren Opens a London Restaurant ...

LONDON — Fashion people are not necessarily known for their love of food, but Ralph Lauren is on a quest to change all that.

In time for London Fashion Week, the American fashion designer has unveiled a new restaurant, in a corner of the Polo Ralph Lauren flagship store on Regent Street in the British capital.

The restaurant follows his Polo Bar in New York, the RL restaurant in Chicago and Ralph’s in Paris.

Those who have struggled to get past the velvet rope of the Polo Bar on 55th Street in New York might have better luck on this side of the Atlantic: Ralph’s Coffee & Bar has a no-reservation policy.

Ralph’s Coffee & Bar shares plenty of hallmarks, both in terms of menu and décor, with its bigger, more bedazzling big brother in New York.

Straight Up: Ralph's Coffee & Bar

If the mark of the world’s best bars is that they spirit you away from the quotidian into a glamorous parallel universe, where everything as reassuringly fine and dandy as a Cole Porter song, then Ralph’s Coffee & Bar is a serious contender.

Two dapper white-jacketed bartenders authoritatively man the gleaming brass-topped bar to a soundtrack of Ella Fitzgerald and other jazz greats, always the perfect accompaniment to the clinking of ice cubes on glass.

Ralph's Coffee & Bar | Restaurants in Mayfair, London

Ralph Lauren’s first UK dining destination comes in the shape of this atmospheric 24-seat spot.

Attached to the Polo Ralph Lauren store on Regent Street, decor is suitably upmarket-equestrian – think dark wood panelling, a brass-topped bar and plenty of framed horsey artwork.

It’s both a coffee bar (serving quality La Colombe brews), cocktail bar (try the trademark Ridgway Margarita) and casual eatery (think American classics and club sandwiches – plus the famous deep-fried olives from its popular Manhattan sister location).

Even if you didn’t know who was behind London’s new Ralph’s Coffee Bar, there would be enough hints in the décor to give the game away.

Inspired by Manhattan’s The Polo Bar, Ralph’s – which is located next to the new Ralph Lauren store on Regent Street – is billed as the city’s first Ralph Lauren dining destination.

While it’s difficult to imagine that the 77-year-old American design legend himself was too involved in the minutiae of the actual planning and furnishing, the DNA markers of his brand are evident.

One part zhooshed up bar, and two parts gentleman’s club, the compact 36-seater is swathed with an unapologetically equestrian theme – framed drawings of thoroughbreds hang over light brown saddle leather banquettes, while the walls are clad in dark wood panels and green billiard cloth.

Meanwhile, the brass-topped bar is framed by subway tiles, cane bar stools, and a surprisingly comprehensive menu of bourbon, single malts, rums, vodkas and tequilas.
