Lisa's Restaurant

Milan & I arrived on the lane 26 years ago to open our new venture Lisa's restaurant.

We have enjoyed our time on the Lane due to the loyal support of our customers and our staff.

We have made many friends here, but it is time to spend more time with the Grandchildren and retire, although we will stil remain in Ealing.

Milan and I feel humble and priviledged.

Thank you- Lisa and Milan.

Lisa's is a relatively new restaurant on Portobello Road in Notting Hill, not far from the centre of the market famous for antiques and vintage clothing.

The restaurant is run by Lisa Wallén, a Swede with a background in marketing, restaurants and events management.

In good weather many people choose to eat outside as the restaurant spills on to the pavement.

For some Lisa chasing her dog, Rocky, round the restaurant makes the place fun, friendly and homely.

We have enjoyed some good Swedish food at Lisa's, but the bill can mount up quickly.

Lisa's, in Pitshanger Lane, will be closing on Sunday (January 14) after owners Lisa and Milan Barbaric announced their plans to retire.

One suggested Lisa's is “something of an institution in Pitshanger Lane”, while another said the restaurant “was a joy to discover" and called it "a hidden gem of London”.

John Martin, chair of Pitshanger Village Trader's Association, said Lisa and Milan have contributed a “great deal” to the local community since opening Lisa's.

He said: “I have had the pleasure of knowing Lisa and Milan for 22 years and congratulate them both on their retirement following 26 years in Pitshanger Lane.

He added: “Lisa has, in recent years, been treasurer of the Pitshanger Village Traders' Association and has helped a great deal in the various campaigns and initiatives.

This Portobello Road café and restaurant has a firmly Nordic feel – the food and drink is Swedish and the staff are all Scandinavian.

The eponymous Lisa has departed for pastures new but a focus on traditional Swedish home-style cooking remains.

Expect, then, meatballs, Swedish fish stews, 'koldolmar' (a white cabbage roll with red lentils, mushrooms, onion, garlic and herbs) and 'pytt i panna' (a Swedish hash of pork sausage with ham, potatoes, onion, pickled beetroot and raw egg yolk).

And outside of those classic Swedish options?

There are chicken sandwiches, beetroot and blue cheese salads and granola with yoghurt and poached pear.
