The Chipping Forecast

The Chipping Forecast

A sustainable fish restaurant and take away in the heart of Notting Hill.

Serving the finest quality fresh Cornish fish.

Each delivery of fish we receive, can be traced back to the boat and to the fisherman who landed the catch (many of whom are pictured on our restaurant walls).

Our fresh Cornish fish can be simply grilled, battered, gluten free or coated in Panko breadcrumbs.

Fish & Chips is our signature dish and our accompanying hand cut chunky chips are tripled cooked in traditional beef dripping for an unbeatable taste.

The spot famously burned down in 2009 (only the original black and white checkered floor tiles survived), but has since reopened, and is now a much-loved local chippy serving the best caught-daily fish in Marylebone.

Fish finger sandwiches, mushy peas and calamari speak to a menu that’s entirely classic in its inspiration, but the chain’s modern, brushed-concrete decor is a bright and airy reappraisal of the traditional dark wood, formica and checkered-tiled chippies of old.

Above and beyond what one would expect of either fish or chip, Kerbisher & Malt is some of the finest seagrub you’ll find this far inland.

Proprietor and East End legend Pat “Pop” Newland began his cod-bothering career on Roman Road in 1952, where he cut up old editions of The Daily Mirror to wrap fish and chips in, back when nobody really minded eating their dinner off a grotty old scrap of newspaper.

7-8 Leigh St, WC1H 9EW While pubs are notoriously lacklustre purveyors of fish and chips, North Sea Fish Restaurant bucks the trend by virtue of being a renowned chippy before it was ever a boozer.

There's a new chippy coming to Notting Hill - and it's one you might recognise from Soho.

The Chipping Forecast (we do like a good restaurant pun) is opening a permanent restaurant after being a stall on Berwick Street Market.

The main event will be the fresh, sustainably caught Cornish fish - with a promise to deliver from sea to plate in 48 hours minimum, and that fish will be cooked in Brewdog Punk IPA beer batter.

They'll also have home-made Fish Cakes, Fish Pie, Prawn Cocktail, Salt & Pepper Squid, Hansen & Lyderson Smoked Salmon, Steamed Cornish Mussels, Monkfish “Scampi” and our their Seadog, a panko breaded fillet of plaice served in a brioche bun with minted pea puree, tartare sauce and rocket.

The Chipping Forecast opens at the end of May at 29 All Saints Road, Notting Hill, London W11 1HE.

There is, I feel ardently, not enough fine fish and chips within the M25.

I long for plentiful enormo-cod in crisp fresh batter, fat chips, heart-stopping salt, plenty of vinegar, maybe a side of mushy peas, but even better, a polystyrene carton of gooey, slightly fruity all-purpose curry.

Our typical London gastropub’s ‘famous fish and chips’ just doesn’t nail it.

These people guarantee ‘hook to Hill’ in 48 hours, serve sustainable Cornish fish and fry it dreamily, in Brewdog beer and beef dripping batter.

I may sail on in search of the chips I had in childhood, but at least in Notting Hill, I know of a decent harbour.

The first permanent restaurant from the Berwick Street Market chippy.

After eight months at Soho’s Berwick Street Market, the folks behind the excellently named fish and chips stall, The Chipping Forecast, have made the move from pop-up to permanent with a cosy neighbourhood restaurant in Notting Hill.

While you won’t get the sea air around these parts, the fish is as fresh as it can be this side of the M25 – it’s sustainably caught in Cornwall and goes from sea to plate within 48 hours.

There’s a choice of battered cod or haddock, or you can have your fish grilled or coated in panko breadcrumbs if you’ve got an aversion to deep-fried food.

The fish was fresh and dipped in a light batter, and the chips were a winning combination of crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
