Vicino review: Italian comfort food in Parsons Green | Wrap Your ...

It’s just the right kind of area for a restaurant like Vicino.

I know that they’d love the unchallenging bowlfuls of pasta, fish and meat.

Vicino will always play the backdrop to that sort of close knit family meal, where you don’t need to necessarily think too hard about the food.

Vicino serves up a humble Italian menu full of food inspired from it’s head chefs hometown of Marche in Tuscany.

Next time round we try the egg pappardelle a ragu of the veal shin, loving the way the meat sits against the ribboning pasta.

Lobster, pasta, cheese and tiramisu – four things in my opinion which make Italian food great and timeless.

While Vicino is known for and specialises in lobster, they serve other great and classic dishes too.

Words going without saying what the best part of our meal words, with Vicino proudly doing its signature dish justice – lobster.

Meat from the claws had already been removed for ease and the whole dish and its fresh pasta were covered in white wine, garlic, butter and tons of chilli.

While I may not have been blown away those couple of years ago on my first visit to Vicino, they’ve done themselves proud two years later, serving up classic Italian dishes with love and care – never leaving flavour or quality behind.

Without further ado, the starters arrived consisting of Prosciutto e Fichi (parma ham with fresh figs and goats cheese), Burrata con Verdure Grigilate (Apulia cheese and grilled vegetables with balsamic dressing) and finally Tartare Di Tonno (Tuna Tartare, avocado shallots, capers & lemon dressing.

The creaminess of the Apulia cheese was ”love at first bite” but my overall favourite was the Parma Ham Dish.

Linguine con Aragosta, Vino Bianco, Aglio & Peperoncio (Whole fresh Lobster with Linguine, White Wine Sauce, Garlic and Chilli) – I’m already a bona fide Lobster Lover but really enjoyed the subtle enhancement of flavourings brought about by the garlic and chilli.

Time for more linguine courtesy of the next dish of Linguine al Nero Di Seppia con Gamberi, Capesante, Calamari e Limone (Black Ink Squid Linguine with Prawns, Sea Scallops, Baby Squid, Lemon & Chilli) – I really liked the evident freshness of this dish conjuring up images of eating today’s catch alongside a waterfront.

The final Mains Course was a meat based Tagliatelle di Manzo con Carciofi Marinati (Beef Sirloin with Marinated Artichokes & Parmesan Shavings), a good all round dish although I preferred the Fish Pastas.
