What are the tastiest street foods to eat at Street Feast: Hawker House?

Hawker House is run by the Street Feast team who gather together some of London’s best street food vendors and put them all in one place so you can sample the best street food London has to offer without having to actually walk the streets.

They have been running Street Feast events in four locations across London for the past few years and Hawker House is the South London sister of Dinerama in Shoreditch, which we checked out last year.

Unlike Dinerama, Hawker House is a much bigger, more spacious venue and has a whole exotic tiki vibe going on with bamboo bars and little coloured lanterns draped around the place.

Breddos Tacos have been a staple of Street Feast for the past couple of years and at Hawker House they have a whole menu full of fried chicken ready for you.

After visiting some awesome street food markets in Lisbon and Copenhagen earlier this year, I was excited to make my first visit to Hawker House in Canada Water to see how it ranks against its European cousins.

Hawker House is a 2 minute walk from Canada Water tube and entry is free before 7pm, so we strolled in, past the impressive, lit up Street Feast sign and into the huge warehouse space.

My eyes quickly scanned the street food traders around the edge of the large, canteen style dining area and my nose was filled with all the delicious aromas from each kitchen.

With 12 of London’s most well-known street food traders in residency, there really is a wealth of delicious choices on offer, from HotBox’s sticky, eight-hour smoked pork ribs, to Prawnography’s XL black tiger prawns with Szechuan butter, and Rola Wala’s mini naan sliders.

There are also enough bars to cater for everyone’s taste, including a cosy Whisky Bar stocking over 50 whiskies, Street Vin wine bar, and Milk & Honey’s luxurious Mercury Lounge, serving up awesome cocktails upstairs on the mezzanine.

ES Food Newsletter READ OUR REVIEW OF HAWKER HOUSE 2015 Choosing a restaurant that suits everybody can be enough to make you hate even your best friends.

As befits an event designed for people who love food so much they want to base their whole evening around it, everything is tempting.

I had more luck with crunchy nut fried chicken and raspberry chipotle sauce in a taco from Breddo’s.

Street Vin, run by former model and Wine Car Boot founder Ruth Spivey, has a space, there’s also Rotary Bar with its cocktails, a whiskey bar, and hot cocktails.

But if a showcase of the finest London street food is what you’re after, go forth and feast.

An indoor, street food night market set in a 2,500 capacity warehouse in Canada Water.

The largest of two all-year-round London venues from street food market giants Street Feast, Hawker House is open every Friday and Saturday night from 5pm until midnight, and plays host to a rotating line-up of 12 global food stalls and eight bars.

Food options are varied, and include vegan tacos from the highly rated Club Mexicana, fried chicken from Mother Clucker, and seafood from the excellently named Prawnography.

The atmosphere is bustling, with a resident DJ every night and graffiti decorating the walls, but the vibe is family-friendly, the spaciousness of the warehouse making Hawker House one of Street Feast’s more relaxed venues.

During the winter it's completely covered and heated, but in the summer Hawker House gains ‘The Land of Bamboo’, an extra 1,000 capacity outdoor area with sandpits, trampolines, tiki huts and a firepit.
