A new Oriental eatery has set up shop on Shoreditch High Street, promising to pair up black charcoal Chicken burgers with Japanese whiskey.

This bar feels like that.

Behind the long copper bar top you'll find welcoming faces and even more welcoming shelves creaking with bottles.

But the choice isn't overwhelming, the selection here feels well thought out and includes some bottles that can't be found anywhere else in the capital.

Care is taken to ensure every drink is not just good, but outstanding - even the water glasses are chilled.

But it's not snobby or pretentious; you needn't worry about how you sit or hold your glass here.

Bull in a China Shop Shoreditch is one of the most unique all-day restaurants we know of and an absolute winner in this part of London.

Because as well as being an all-day restaurant – one that specialises in Asian-style rotisserie chicken, no less – it’s also a fantastic whisky bar with over 100 Scotch and Japanese whiskies on offer.

Enjoy your whisky neat or as cocktail and savour the ways each of them can compliment the Bull in a China Shop food menu just right.

Much like the food and the whisky, the nail-bitingly cool decor at Bull in a China Shop Shoreditch is Asian-inspired as well, and as we say, it all comes together to create one of the most unique haunts in Shoreditch.

Bull in a China Shop is worth the trip from wherever you are in London but be sure to reserve a table in advance – it’s popular!

What they say: Opposite the iconic Tea Building in Shoreditch sits an all-day restaurant and whisky bar with a subtle hint of the Orient.

Order: The chamomile and charcoal Old-Fashioned (Nikka Yoichi 10 year old whiskey, homemade chamomile syrup, bitters, charcoal, coconut) is rightly the house favourite: it looks like oil but tastes like gold - watch the video above to see how to make your own.

Others to try include the Wabi/Sabi (whisky, cocchi vermouth, torino, Matcha green tea syrup and black walnut bitters) and the Apricot High Ball (Nikka whisky from the barrel, apricot jam, apricot brandy, soda) for any whisky-sceptics.

Good for: celebrations, commiserations, date nights, friends, anniversaries, birthdays, bar mitzvahs... everything, in short.

And get stuck into the menu: the chicken burger in a charcoal bun is a must.

From the team behind nearby bar and dim sum parlour The Drunken Monkey, a destination bar-restaurant featuring Japanese whiskies and rôtisserie chicken.

And when you read their website, it does little to alleviate fears: ‘Our menu boasts eggs benedict, superfood salads, charcoal bun sandwiches, and Asian-spiced whisky glazed rotisserie chicken.

Our bar serves an extensive selection of over 30 rare and premium whiskies, hailing from Japan and Scotland.’

The spirits selection makes it a proper whisky destination – it has more Japanese whiskies than anywhere I’ve seen in London, from the cool Nikka From the Barrel to rare Karuizawa bottlings.

No bull: this Bull is a great place and a destination for whisky fans.
