Bruce Gillingham Pollard - Pizza Pilgrims - Shoreditch

Following two very successful Soho sites, Pizza Pilgrims looked to find their first permanent East London restaurant.

After various successful East London pop-ups, Shoreditch seemed like their perfect target audience.

Bruce Gillingham Pollard helped them search and secure their ground floor and basement unit at 136 Shoreditch High Street, which opened early in 2017.

Pizza Pilgrims Shoreditch

Cult Soho pizzeria joint Pizza Pilgrims is has headed East and opened a branch on Shoreditch High Street.

The Pizza Pilgrims have developed a loyal following for their proper Neapolitan pizzas – bases are made by hand and proved for 24-48 hours, then topped with Fior Di Latte cow’s milk mozzarella (flown in from Italy) for that perfect ‘stringiness’ and cooked at over 460C to ensure their traditionally high crusted Neapolitan bases.

As well as pizzas, tuck in to Crust Dippers, Prosciutto Pops and Tiramisu and new and exclusive to the Shoreditch site – chocolate calzonification…… Pizza Pilgrims are offering guests to bring any chocolate bar and have it encased in dough and baked at the restaurant – oof!

The Shoreditch site will be BYOB and for the month of March corkage will even be waived so pick up a bottle of your fave wine to enjoy in the restaurant decked out in Pizza Pilgrim green checkered table cloths  peppered with trademark ‘Pizza Box’ art covering the walls.

Guests are invited to create their own masterpieces and the most highly esteemed will win free pizza and get a place in the pizza box art gallery.

Casual dining with ‘bring your own booze’ When Mary Berry says it’s the “best pizza” she’s ever had, that’s quite an accolade (Mary Berry Everyday March 2017).

On the other hand, if you can get the Pizza Pilgrims duo to come and cook fresh Neopolitan pizza in their 3-wheeled pizza-oven-van in your own garden, that’s a pretty special kind of pizza delivery.

Sharing: Salsiccia + friarielli (left) and Aubergine parmigiana (right) with mozzarella in the middle It’s £2.50 a head for corkage, which helps keep costs down if you’re after a cheap and cheerful pizza meal.

Here, the pizza is Naples-style – proved slow for 48 hours and cooked fast at 500°c. For two, we order: – Aubergine parmigiana – margherita with roast aubergines, baby plum tomatoes, topped with parmesan + breadcrumbs @ £9.00 – Salsiccia + friarielli – White pizza with fresh fennel sausage, chilli, wild broccoli, parmesan, basil + white truffle oil @ £10.00 – Buffalo mozzarella with smoked tomatoes fresh from Italy every week @ £5.50 (so good!)

The verdict: Seriously good pizzas served in a casual environment, and BYOB at the Shoreditch branch keeps costs down.

Pizza Pilgrims Shoreditch It’s tough to know what to put on the menu at a new pizza place.

Luckily, Pizza Pilgrims are more than capable of just that, as they’re proving with their Shoreditch High Street branch, just outside the orbit of the Old Street roundabout.

Inside, the decor features the brand’s signature New York-Italian touches, with green checked tablecloths and white walls, one of which is covered with gorgeous old pizza boxes.

NOTE: Pizza Pilgrims Shoreditch is now open, and is walk-in only.

What: The fast growing pizza group has bagged a former shoeshop on the northern end of Shoreditch High Street.

Who: James and Thom Elliot’s Neapolitan pizza business started life in a van but the pair now runs five pizzerias plus a concession at crazy golf venue Swingers.

Ironically, the neighbour’s decision to deny the restaurant a licence could lead to more alcohol being consumed on the premises than at the pair’s other restaurants.

The menu: The food is a bit more creative than some Neapolitan pizzerias with toppings including aubergine parmigiana (roast aubergine, parmesan, baby plum tomatoes and garlic) and salsiccia e friarielli (white pizza with fresh fennel sausage, chilli, wild broccoli, parmesan, basil and olive oil).

The chefs are willing to encase your favourites in pizza dough to make a dessert calzone (folded over pizza).

Pizza Pilgrims Shoreditch | London Restaurant Reviews ...

Pizza Pilgrims have brought their traditional Neapolitan pizzas to Shoreditch High Street.

The venue focuses on relaxed simplicity, with green and white tablecloths and traditional, delicious pizza recipes coming ahead of gimmicks.

Bold greens juxtaposing with whites characterise the interior, with customer-drawn pizza box art adorning the walls.

The quirks Londoners have come to expect from Pizza Pilgrims have returned to their East London site, with location-specific toppings, crust dippers, prosciutto pops and even the opportunity to ‘calzonify’ your favourite chocolate bar.

Just bring in your favourite chocolate bar and they’ll have it wrapped in dough and baked.
