FLATPLANET - Fresh for Sale

Review analysis
food

How many times have you been looking for a healthy, affordable and quick meal while you are around the busy Oxford Street unsuccessfully?

It is called FLATPLANET and it is situated in between Regent’s Street and Oxford Street, just round the corner of Carnaby.

The best thing is the food!

Founded by John Vincent, who previously started LEON restaurants, FLATPLANET is between Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food, the drinks (wines and beer) are Spanish, and their great coffee is made from Freshly Roasted Darwin beans.

Besides all this, FLATPLANET has a great atmosphere feeded by a lot of activites as live music, pop-up stores, knitting workshops…

The flats are made from organic English flour from Shipton Mill and include The Soho (Tomato sauce, salami, spicy 'nduja sausage, buffalo mozzarella, rocket and dressing.)

, The Carnaby (Sundried tomato sauce, British chicken, goat's cheese, garlic butter, roasted red pepper, rocket, Parmesan and dressing.)

Additionally, all of Flat Planet's cookies and cakes are prepared without gluten, including the Salted caramel brownie, and Ken and Jesse's cookies.

Flat Planet make a fuss of their coffee and flat whites, freshly brewed and made with organic beans every time.

Flatplanet, John hopes, is can be a gang of businesses who want to make the world happy, healthy and wealthy.

If you live in London, or if you're visiting this week, you can get 20% off at more than 100 shops, restaurants and bars in the Carnaby Street area of the West End from 5-9pm on Thu 4 May.

You'll need to register for a free Carnaby ticket on the Carnaby website and either print it or show it on your smartphone in stores.

You can also get your ticket (which is really more of a voucher you can use for all your transactions) from the information point at the top of Kingly Street or from Carnaby team members in the area, if you're unable to register beforehand.

The event will also feature live music and each ticket holder can get one free cocktail at the Beetle Juice pop-up bar on Ganton Street and a free bag of pick ‘n’ mix on Newburgh Street.

There's no limit on the number of tickets being issued, but when these events have happened previously they’ve attracted large crowds - so be prepared to spend time queuing.

The breads themselves are made with organic English spelt, and are topped with options such as 'Moroccan' (layers of houmous, labneh, olives, tomatoes, basil and rose harissa) or 'buffalo soldier' (mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, basil and parmesan pesto crumbs, garlic butter and rocket.

Starters such as falafel, olives, garlic mushrooms and chorizo slices in red wine and tomato sauce feature alongside simple salads.

House red, white and rosé by the bottle and glass, a couple of lagers plus smoothies, fruity matcha teas and a range of coffee.

It's somewhere that works well as an accessible introduction to yum cha - before you get to the tripe, the chicken feet and the duck tongue.

Most of the dumplings here are steamed, with recognisable options including chicken and cashew nut, scallop and shiitake, char siu (barbecue pork in a fluffy white bao) and har gau (king prawn and bamboo shoot in a translucent dough).

Expect, too, baked roast pork puffs, griddled spinach and mushroom dumplings and even gyoza, for a slice of how they do them in Japan.
