If you fancy a Thai restaurant that is a bit more upmarket, then you might want to head to Patara on Greek Street (a few doors away from Bibimbap Soho).

Some of the names that you will find in Soho are Bocca Di Lup, Tuscanic, Jamie’s Italian, Polpettp, La Polenteria, Forty Dean Street, Spaghetti House, Polpo, Mele e Pere, Melanie Italian Restaurant, Il Siciliano, Aperitivo Soho, the list goes on.

La Polenteria on Old Compton Street is a moderate priced vegetarian friendly Italian restaurant.

Vegetarians will be content with either a Burrata cheese with cherry tomato sauce and fresh basil or Grilled tomino cheese with cherry tomato sauce and freshly grated courgettes.

For starters you can find some Welsh Rarebit, Roasted Jerusalem Artichoke Puy Lentil Salad or a Raw Lasagne (wafer thin marinated raw golden, candy and red beetroot, courgette and beef tomato layered together with cashew cheese and raw pizzaiola sauce, drizzled with sweet basil and pine nut pesto and finished with cress sprouts garnish.)

An Italian restaurant out of the ordinary, Melanie's specialises in Neapolitan food, setting it apart from the numerous other dining rooms in London's central Soho area.

Located on the notorious Old Compton Street, close to Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square and the numerous theatres and cinemas the West End has to offer, Melanie's is easy to spot thanks to its large awning proudly displaying the red, green and white of the Italian flag.

Inside, you'll find a dining room clad in much light wood and full of light, traditional, simple and comfortable in its d?cor.

In the kitchen, the focus is very much on the use of good ingredients, the chefs sourcing local and seasonal produce for their classic Neapolitan dishes.

You'll recognise many of Melanie's offerings, from favourite pizzas to well known pasta dishes, but you'll also be tempted to try the specialties of the house which include the typical ingredients of Naples and the surrounding countryside.

Had to wait one and a half hours for our food (seriously - we times them).

Food was OK - though pizzas were cold - presumably they'd been sat waiting for the rest of the food.

The waiters were particularly inattentive and there seemed to be an atmosphere between the waiters and the kitchen stafff and also between the waiters themslves.

I recommend you avoid this restaurant - there are so many others to choose from (Med Kitchen, also on Old Compton Street is infinitely better).

Il Cucciolo Restaurant Soho is a gorgeous little spot on Old Compton Street.

The team at Il Cucciolo Restaurant Soho are always warm and friendly and do their best to make this London Italian restaurant feel like an extension of an Italian family dining table.

For over ten years Il Cucciolo Restaurant London has called Old Compton Street home and today it’s an immensely popular spot.

Il Cucciolo Restaurant Soho also offer two- or three-course set menus for an unbeatable price and when paired with some quality Italian wine there’s little not to love.

Head to Old Compton Street with a reservation in hand – London’s Il Cucciolo Restaurant is popular.

Melanie Italian Restaurant sets itself apart from the wider Italian community of Soho, specialising as it does in the food of the southern city of Naples.

They bring a twist on the classical dishes of the Italian canon, providing an experience unlike any other in the West End, so we recommend expanding your options within London’s theatre district by heading down to Melanie Restaurant Old Compton Street to find out what the fuss is all about.

When you order at Melanie Restaurant Soho, begin with pane to share – garlic bread or crostini – before choosing from the antipasti menu.

The southern Italian city is the home of pizza, and the selection here is extensive, though the Napoletana is the obvious favourite as an authentic example of what Napoli has to offer.

We’d finish off with a limoncello of course, before taking our place in one of the palaces of London’s West End theatreland or a Soho dive bar to digest proceedings.
