Arbina, Taste of Spain in London - Hot and Chilli

Review analysis
food   drinks   menu

Arbina arrived quietly about two years ago in Fitzrovia bringing delicious Spanish fare to be good people of London.

The list is well put together with highlights of the main Spanish dishes from all over the country but with focus on Basque fare, arroces (rice dishes) and paella.

Deep fried Padrón pepper, as expected delicious and Ham croquettes – one of my favourites Spanish nibbles – this one was crisp outside and creamy inside – appetising!

Deep fried Monte Enebro goat cheese with green “mojo”, a sauce made with coriander, parsley,  garlic, green pepper, good quality extra virgin olive oil and seasoning – this dish was so good!

I liked all the contrasting flavours of the sweet ‘chutney’, the green sauce with the snow white crumbly goat cheese encased in breadcrumbs Seafood Paella – I love rice and seafood, and this dish was all about the rice cooked to perfection on a delightful sofrito it has a slightly brown on the bottom of the paella dish – perfect!

My first English asparagus of the season served with mozzarella at the Quality Chop House (thequalitychophouse.com), where the lunch menu is fantastic value and also, well, just fantastic.

Near home I discover new Arbina Taste of Spain (arbina.co.uk) in Whitfield Street and the chef Enrique J Garcia Lopez, who creates dishes like carrillada (ox cheek) al vino tinto y terrillaki (yes, teriyaki sauce).

Spanish restaurant in Fitzrovia specialising in traditional, rustic dishes, from huevos rotos to shareable paellas.

A Fitzrovia fixture since 2015, this Spanish restaurant on Whitfield Street serves up Basque Country cuisine, paellas and other classic dishes from the south-east of Spain and tapas from all over.

Tapas plays an important role here, with classics such as patatas bravas, Galician-style octopus, chorizo in cider, ham croquettes and deep-fried Padron peppers alongside huevos rotos con jamon (broken eggs with fried potatoes and iberico ham), albondigas en salsa (Spanish beef and pork meatballs) and mezclum de setas con alioli-miel (mixed mushrooms with grilled honey alioli).

Larger dishes include seafood paella, iberico spicy rice and black rice with saffron alioli, as well as daily stews.

The restaurant's speciality is cocido madrileño – a traditional meat, potato and chickpea stew from Madrid.
