Producers transformed the flat above Speedy’s Sandwich Bar, near London’s Euston station, into a modern-day 221B Baker Street, home to Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson in the updated series.

Speedy’s is half a mile from the real Baker Street and owner Chris Georgiou, 53, said: ‘Even though the show only started a month ago, we’ve had 200 new customers who recognised the shopfront and asked if it was 221B Baker Street.

Lots of Asian people stop to take photographs and we even had the Sherlock Holmes Appreciation Society drop in for a coffee.

The flat above Speedy’s, in North Gower Street, is really home to two South Korean students, one of whom, Tae Kim, 33, said: ‘There have been lots of people taking photographs outside.’

Baker Street numbers only went up to 100 when Sir Arthur Conan Doyle created Holmes in 1887.

Speedy’s Sandwich Bar and Cafe, with its instantly recognisable red canopy, features in all three television series of the BBC’s Sherlock.

Since featuring in the hit TV series, with its modern day twist on Sherlock Holmes, the cafe has been welcoming fans who visit.

The door to Sherlock and Watson's flat is immediately left of the cafe In the TV series the filming of the exterior shots of Baker Street took place in North Gower Street.

Door 187 immediately to the left of the cafe stands in for one of the world's most famous addresses 221b Baker Street.

I loved my visit to Speedy's and to be honest whether or not your a Sherlock fan this is a great place to visit as they offer delicious, great value food for breakfast and lunchtimes.

Where To Eat And Drink In... Euston | Londonist

But these days there's more to NW1 than just the commute, and Euston has the burgers, beers, ribs and rotis to prove it.

Straightforward, cheap and cheerful, Double Six Café (66, Eversholt Street, NW1 1DA) is open from 7am on weekdays and doing food to match the old-school caff interior — fry-ups, bacon sandwiches and the classic egg-chips-beans hat-trick.

Maybe our favourite pub in Euston, The Pack & Carriage has a good wine list, brilliantly-chosen draught and bottled beers and a warm, faded wooden bar area.

Between the menus at Diwana Bhel Poori House and Ravi Shankar (133-135, Drummond Street, NW1 2HL), you could have Southern Indian vegetarian food every day for a month without repeating a dish.

The Cosy Kettle cocktail bar (60, Chalton St, NW1 1HS) is the best place for dessert and a nightcap, the combination you didn't realise you wanted, offering cake and cocktails from the basement of Somers Town Coffee House until the small hours.

Hunting for 'Sherlock' at Speedy's, a London cafe - The Boston Globe

Speedy’s happens to be next door to the fictional 221B Baker St. flat featured in the hit TV series “Sherlock,” from Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss.

Speedy’s will pop up again in the much-anticipated standalone episode, “Sherlock: The Abominable Bride,” premiering Jan. 1 at 9 p.m. on PBS.

Plenty of folks have requested a window seat at Tapas Brindisa, 46 Broadwick St., the Soho outpost of this Spanish-style restaurant chain where Sherlock and Watson waited for a cab in the series premiere, “A Study in Pink.”

“We have a lot of fans coming here — I’d say at least 25 percent of the customers,” Georgiou said about the cafe, open most days from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Limited hours on Saturdays, closed Sundays.)

Speedy’s walls are blanketed with “Sherlock” fan art and photos of the actors mugging for the camera with their arms around a smiling Georgiou.

Yes, that’s the café Benedict Cumberbatch lives above in Sherlock.

Thankfully, apart from a few photos on the wall and the odd fan taking photos outside, the Sherlock link isn’t played on too heavily.

Ben gobbled his omelette, Tom murdered his beans & cheese jacket potato, Richard throttled his mushroom omelette and I devoured my deluxe chicken fillet burger.

My only gripe was the fillet in my burger was around 4mm thick, when ideally you’d be after a good 1cm thickness in your fillet.

As we paid our bill we got a proper look at the takeaway sandwich fillings on offer, and by the looks of the selection behind the glass there’s really something for everyone here.
