Bugis Street Brasserie review at Millennium Gloucester Hotel - a ...

Some time back, someone left a comment on London Chow suggesting that Millennium Gloucester Hotel's Bugis Street Brasserie serves the best Singaporean food outside Singapore.

For the sake of variety, our band of four ordered a Diced Roast Duck to share followed by Laksa (£7.5), Singapore Mee Po (£7.50), Prawn noodle soup (£7.50) and Hainanese Chicken Rice (£8.75).

After 20 minutes, the laksa, mee po and chicken rice arrived but the prawn noodles was nowhere in sight.

Then again, to give Bugis Street Brasserie some credit, the chicken rice was one of the better ones that I tasted in London.

Tasty of Singapore in Kensington Brasserie Bugis Street, named after the legendary seafaring merchants from the Island of Sulawesi, was once one of the more notorious areas of Singapore.

Recently it has been transformed and now boasts a bustling street life with boutiques, market stalls and open-air bars and restaurants.

Bugis Street Brasserie in London just off Gloucester Road station is a hugely popular modern Cantonese Singaporean bistro with relaxed friendly atmosphere serving delightful dishes from the Far East.

So for starters it could be a Bugis Street platter of seaweed, vegetable spring rolls, spare ribs, prawns on toast and chicken satay, and then the chef's recommended Cantonese and Szechuan dishes such as Taiwanese style chicken served in a hot pot, and steamed fillet of salmon with black bean paste.

The oriental drinks list at Bugis Street Brasserie deserves more than a passing glance with sake, lychee liquor and plum wine.

Bugis Street Brasserie | Restaurants in South Kensington, London

Bugis Street was a Singapore tourist nightspot renowned for its parade of transsexual women.

This hotel brasserie, with tourists the only diners on our visit, more closely resembles a Singaporean coffee shop, with gold ceiling fans, marble-topped tables, bird cages and muzak.

The menu has a Chinese and Singaporean slant, but dishes weren’t impressive: chicken satay, not chargrilled but pan-fried and then skewered, was poor; stir-fried king prawns with tamarind sauce were bland.

Bugis Street Brasserie - Chinese Restaurant - visitlondon.com

The Bugis Street Brasserie is an informal restaurant serving classic dishes from Singapore, Malaysia and Canton.

This popular restaurant is moderately priced but the food is still really tasty.
