God, looking for a new flat in London is an exausting task!
So after a loooooong morning of (rather unsuccessful) viewings, when we found ourselves right around the corner of my favourite little pocket of London, we decided to take a break from it all and treat ourself to a nice lunch.
A tiny but perfectly formed, new-wave shawarma bar, brought to central London by Haggerston’s Middle Eastern barbecue superstar.
Needless to say, it’s a ‘let’s get one of each and share’-type dinner’s dream, be it for a relaxed weekday lunch, a casual dinner or not-your-usual weekend brunch.
Followed by a smogasboard of small plates to share!

So we bought a camper van, removed one of the wheels and turned it into rotating kebab spit, and set out in pursuit of the perfect shawarma.
Berber & Q Shawarma Bar opened on Exmouth Market in July 2016, specialising in rotisserie Middle Eastern meats slow-cooked over charcoal and wood.
Shawarma Bar is open for lunch and dinner every day except Sundays.
We are primarily a walk-in restaurant, operating on a first-come-first-served basis.

It’s divided into four sections – shawarma, rice bowls, sandwiches and vegetable side dishes.
Lamb shawarma might just be another name for lamb doner (for all intents and purposes), but Berber and Q’s version here is still worth seeking out.
Although the meat unsurprisingly gets top billing at the Berber and Q Shawarma Bar, you would be a fool to overlook the vegetarian side dishes.
Warm and crisp, then cool, sweet and nutty, it was surprisingly enjoyable even if it did leave me longing for an even stronger flavoured sesame ice cream.
Although it’s a shame that Berber and Q’s second restaurant isn’t more ambitious than the first, the Shawarma Bar’s concentration on doing a few dishes well is admirable.
