So when I saw that Firebrand Pizza use roast potatoes as a pizza topping, I knew that I had found my place.

There are no less than TWO roast potato topped pizzas on the menu and there was a third on the specials board when we visited.

In the interests of diversity, my friend begrudgingly ordered a non-potato pizza – goats cheese, caramelised onion and black olives.

But who bloody cares because roast potato pizza is the marriage of two of the best food groups ever.

The goats cheese pizza was also rather lovely thing.

Paula went for the buffalo mozzarella, cherry tomato, rocket and parmesan pizza.

Paula’s pizza was large and was a white base (without tomato sauce), the sourdough base was slightly crispy, the toppings were a nice blend of light and harder cheese with the mozzarella and parmesan complimenting the cherry tomatoes and rocket.

I chose the spicy salami, roasted peppers, rocket, mozzarella and tomato pizza.

My pizza had a good mix of slightly spiced salami with the sweeter taste of roasted peppers, the rocket added a good bite of peppery taste and complimented the melted mozzarella cheese.

Both went well with our respective pizzas, especially my Malbec with the spicy chilli oil and one thing I noticed was that the wine per glass was very reasonably priced, from £5.

The 42-cover restaurant will be on Lisson Grove near Marylebone Station, and is a joint concept from owners Guy Holmes – owner of restaurant marketing and branding agency Captivate Hospitality ‒ and Bibars Ozdamir, who owned the previous fine-dining restaurant on the site, Ozz.

The group has also confirmed there is “finance in place” for further expansion, once the concept has established itself.

The pizzas will be Neapolitan in style, topped on 72-hour-proved sourdough bases cooked in the wood-fired oven, with “carefully sourced” ingredients.

The décor will put the wood-fired oven centre stage, with seats facing the kitchen, alongside exposed brick and parquet table tops, brown leather Chesterfield seating, and industrial bar stools.

Director and co-founder Holmes said: “I have been helping clients launch restaurants for years... now it’s my turn!

Firebrand Pizza is throwing their neapolitan flare into London’s pizza mix.

Drink options include wines, six reds and 6 whites, craft beers, ciders and G&Ts to appropriately appease the British crowds.

Firebrand Pizza is appropriately reminiscent of Italian pizzerias, all while throwing enough novelty into the mix for all matter of impromptu drop-ins and regulars.

Firebrand Pizza will be no exception adding Chef Moreno de Marco’s Guy Holmes and Bibars Ozdamir backed neapolitan pizzeria.

A chef that’s been making pizzas since the age of 7, a vast score of pizzerias across Italy, years of food marketing and restaurant ownership under their collective belts, Firebrand Pizza isn’t taking the competition lightly.

Any London pizza joint worth its (Sicilian sea) salt seems to specialise in sourdough these days, and Firebrand is no exception.

Mains are divided into ‘pizza’ and ‘non-pizza’.

Much better was a fiery ‘nduja, mushroom and truffle oil pizza, the base a little crispier than normal but salvaged by the punchy flavours.

Even so, at £9 and up the pizzas are a little pricey given the stiff competition at Franco Manca and co.

It’s not just the dough that’s extra yeasty – Firebrand also serves a ‘unique cloudy prosecco’ that’s re-fermented in the bottle.
