CRAFT BEER CO – read our full review here 11-13 Brixton Station Road, Brixton, London, SW9 8PA [map] 020 7274 8383 Nearest tube: Brixton Huge range of fantastic beers in rather soulless surroundings A magnetic attraction for beardy hipsters, beer monsters and ale aficionados, this bar has a formidable selection of beers on offer – some of a positively terrifying strength – but be warned as some come with a troubling price tag to match.

CROWN & ANCHOR – read our full review here  246 Brixton Road, SW9 6AQ [map] Tel: 020 7737 7915 Nearest tube: Brixton/Oval/Stockwell The best real ale pub in Brixton, bar none, and well worth the thirst-earnng hike out of central Brixton With its long bar serving up no less than 25 beers and ciders (ten on hand pumps),  this is a CAMRA member’s wet dream.

DOGSTAR – read our full review here 389 Coldharbour Lane, SW9 Tel:  020 7733 751 Nearest tube: Brixton Loud, proud and insanely busy on weekends Phenomenally busy on Friday and Saturday nights, the Dogstar can claim to be one of the very first DJ bars in the UK, but in functions more like a regular pub in the week, with regular comedy, quizzes and other live acts upstairs.

Food: Full menu  till 10pm [Website] THE EFFRA HALL TAVERN 38a Kellett Rd SW2 1EB Tel: 020 7274 4180 Nearest tube: Brixton Fantastic Brixton boozer with some great live jazz nights A winning combination of great Guinness, a friendly, mixed crowd and live jazz performances make this a highly recommended Brixton pub, although service can be devilishly slow on busy nights.

Food: Yes – restaurant review [Website] THE ELM PARK TAVERN 376 Elm Park, Streatham SW2 2UB Tel: 07852 345 974 Nearest tube: Brixton (plus bus up Brixton Hill) Likeable local pub with comfy seats and good ales Once a strong contender for the shabbiest pub in town, we feared for the survival of this fine hostelry.

drinks

It's still got the theatre upstairs with regular comedy nights, there's still a good range of drinks, including decent real ales, and a genial atmosphere.

If that wasn't enough Sunday nights have an intelligent-looking pub quiz too.

Staying at Caroline's place is reminded me of what it was like when AirBnB first started before the focus became most people buying properties for the sole purpose of renting them.

Caroline's place is a rare gem, which clearly reflects her hosting style.

The place is exactly as…

Heather and Harry at The Landor Theatre - Review

Review analysis
food

Harry (also Church, making for some comical costume changes when the show is at its most confrontational, in a supernatural showdown – as peculiar as it sounds) encounters Heather in rainy London, after the (sort of) angel is chucked out of the sky when Zeus chucks his proverbial toys out of the pram.

Heather’s observant description of how humans live is a little like the wizards of the Harry Potter series attempting to understand the ways of ‘Muggles’, or even Prince Harry in Mike Bartlett’s King Charles III, effusive in his recounting of a night out with a commoner: “We went to Sainsbury’s!”

As for how the story ends, let’s just say the show isn’t called Heather and Harry for nothing.

Combining clowning, cabaret, theatre and an array of dance styles Heather and Harry is an extremely silly unpicking of what it means to be human… and in Love.

Harry shows Heather proof of beauty and love amongst the chaos.
